That Piracy Thing I've Mumbled About
Posted by: Ayzek - 12-08-2017, 03:15 AM - Forum: Discussion and Planning - Replies (6)

Show ContentTimeline of (relevant) things that happened:

INDEED. Rather than just saying "there's pirates there, let's go fuk 'em up", I've given them a FACE. The piracy is only part of the problem/a symptom though, the result of a-totally-not-a-civil-war in Gable.

Rewaka swears the situation is under control and is refusing foreign assistance, but its obvious it's not and there's reports of more atrocities that may or may not be genocide, but whatever it is we should definitely not it genocide because genocide is a strong word that may or may not demand that we do something about it. But Rewaka is definitely not behind it, for realsies.

What are we actually RPing, you ask?

Anti-piracy operations are a cover for Lanlanian imperialism elsewhere in the world. Mainly, our navies actually going out and doing something. I don't know (or really care about, frankly) about your guy's navies, but the HLE is trying to get into the swing of exercising its and asserting key concept it cares about (laws of the sea, in this case). I suppose participating would give you nerds something to do, even if it's only slapping around poor people with AKs and RPGs on rotting motorboats and rusting fishing trawlers (why do you hate poor people?).

Additionally, we may discuss doing something about Gable. Its president doesn't want us to, but the country and people are not a good shape.

Also, I will be doing something with an island elsewhere in the world, but that's not relevant here.

  The Zenith of Madness
Posted by: Adwest - 12-05-2017, 08:50 AM - Forum: Siora - Replies (6)

Balfonheim, Adwest (23 Marth 1588)

A high-pitched giggle permeated the Amber Hall of Alcombey Palace, one of the most well-preserved historical palaces in the Adwestene capital. But the multitude of dining furniture were nowhere to be seen, signifying the absence of souls except for one. Even the chandeliers of gold and crystal which majestically lined up the hall shimmered only faintly in the solitary space. It was a couple of hours past the afternoon mark.

In the middle of the marble floor sat a young girl not more than ten years of age, her long hair untied and her right hand clutching a short crayon. To her immediate surroundings stood two sentries whose uniforms resembled the shade of the midnight skies. Her guards carried automatic guns - their attached bayonets sharpened rigorously - and kept their glance steady on the entrance to the Amber Hall.

The same way the sentries kept themselves focused, the girl had all her attention fixated on a page with a half-colored picture of a rose. She stopped from filling in the picture with her crayon every few seconds, sometimes to look at her picture and sometimes to echo another chortle of amusement. For her, life could be so simple and yet so satisfactory as this, even if she would outgrow her coloring books and crayons.

It was not to be.

As the girl finished working on the rose bulb, her two sentries suddenly came alive, appearing as if shocked by a burst of electricity. They sprung to attention, gripping their rifles tightly and stiffening their postures, as the sight of an elderly yet robust man greeted them. The man entered the Amber Hall tailed by several others in the same age bracket and garbed in formal wear. Some of his companions were conversing silently, others still were completely mum as they followed.

The man who headed the group crossed the hall in a brisk fashion, uninterested in anything or anyone save for leaving. Yet he and his cohorts came to a standstill - the girl in the middle of the hall ran towards them with a jovial expression.

"Daddy!"

She came to the man and hugged him, her crayon still on her right hand and the torn page of the rose on the other.

The stoic expression already plastered across the man's face became even grimmer with this gesture. He took his daughter's torn page, looked at it without any words, then crumpled it and threw it to the floor. The girl was expressionless as she saw this, although the act did not deter her; she would pick up her coloring book and attempt to flip through its pages in a proud showcase to her father, her big and youthful grin returning almost immediately.

"While waiting for you, I did this....and this....and this rainbow over Stormwind is my favorite, daddy!"

The man sighed, regretful he had neither the will nor the time to appreciate what was before him. With one hand he silenced the company around him and bent on one knee so as to face his daughter closely. His round eyes, heavy with exhaustion, met his daughter's, and he gripped her lanky arm tightly. The girl stopped herself from wincing in pain at her father's hold, although by now her cheerful demeanor had been demolished.

"Why are you still here? You should be studying" remarked the man tersely.

His daughter looked to her feet as she answered. "It's spring break daddy...and I wanted to surprise you"

"You shouldn't be doing this, it's dangerous outside the palace! You should be at home with your brother and not putting yourself at risk and wasting my time!"

The yells which now came from the man caused tears to roll down the side of his daughter's pale cheeks, although she suppressed her urge to cry knowing that would only bring a hit from her father. Yet to conceal her wet face was futile now.

"You're crying again? you do nothing but cry and wet your bed and be a burden! Your mother....you already killed her, and now you are intent on killing me as well with your foolishness?"

The man forcefully cast her daughter aside, who ended up silent on the floor and with a visible bruise on her arms. She kept silent, afraid of her father - her father who was beloved by the Adwestene people for his kindness and humility but who placed all blame on her for his wife's death during childbirth. The girl cursed at that irony, that such a man committed to his people's welfare would easily hurt his own kin. She paid the price for that twist of fate, and despite believing that she indeed was the cause of her mother's demise, she still did her best to earn the affection of her father. At times like this, she would think he was too far gone.

"Bring her home and keep her there until further orders. If I see her outside Stormwind, you will both be dismissed" commanded the man to the two sentries. Collecting himself, he continued his march to the exit.

The girl glanced wearily at the grey backs of the group which followed to leave, all representative of a heartless and cruel world where her father was king.

She did not weep, unable to find her voice and any more tears. But while her guards struggle to lift her up, her sight began to fade into a sea of blood.

The sea of blood which was crowding her vision became clearer, and the girl found herself in front of a familiar and more recent scene in her life. Before her very eyes lay the lifeless figure of her father, clutched by the hands of her brother. All around her was chaos as people, some even looking like foreigners, struggled to come to safety, discover who murdered the king, or simply come to terms what was happening.

The girl blinked and raised her hands; they were filled with blood, and so was her dress. She stood alone in the chaos and in the death of her father, and she opened her mouth to scream. Nothing still came. She tried, exerting full force to release a sound someone, anyone could hear. But it was all for naught.

"No!" finally came her voice.

Sophia Bernadette Durnador woke up, cold sweat hugging her entire body beneath her nightgown. She was breathing heavily, looking around despite the darkness of her chambers for any sign of the scene which previously invaded her sleeping subconscious.

She relaxed a bit as she deciphered she was not reliving that day in Treiezen 1565 again, but her stir had caused the guards outside her door to come in. They were accompanied by Euram Redever, Prince-Consort of Adwest and father  to Sophia's children. He had a concerned look on his face as he approached. He made to address her, but the Queen came to words before he did.

"It is nothing. My father once again attempts to haunt me for being a failure for following in his footsteps. He is dead but remains trouble even in the afterlife of the damned." Sophia said as she got up her bed and went to fetch a drink.

"Do you want me to stay with you?" offered the Prince-Consort to her.

The two never sleep in one room, let alone in one bed, because of the Queen's own desires. They were not in a troubled spot in their relationship, but it sufficed to say that the romance between the two did not burn strongly as the first few years of their courtship and marriage. Sophia saw herself as a Queen and even moreso a Durnador whose right to rule absolutely rested not in his relationship with any man but by virtue of her bloodline and her enlightenment. For her, to marry and procreate was a utilitarian act necessary to preserve the royal line.

Sophia took a second, although as usual she rejected this offer. Yet she walked over to him, the father of her children, and tenderly grazed his cheek with her soft hand. She then looked to his arms; he was carrying their two year-old son, asleep. She managed a smile as she took the baby from Euram.

"We will build a better world for you, Edward. We will deliver you to your destiny as a God among men."

  Evolution of Solhaven
Posted by: Aerandariel - 12-04-2017, 07:47 AM - Forum: Discussion and Planning - Replies (4)

The Solhaven Confederacy is about to undergo its most important evolution. Right now, as you all know, the Confederacy is a nation of nine territories with little to no central government. All of the territories have their own separate governments, militaries and economies but all adhere to some central policies created by the Confederate Governing Council. This Council is made of delegates from all nine territories that are subjected to elections based on their own territories' electoral schedules. So the Council never really stays constant.

Recently, there has been a major pull from some of the territorial governments to abandon the long-held Confederate system and evolve into a unified government system. The people backing this position argue that with the world moving increasingly towards hostility and anger that Solhaven must evolve and become a much more stronger country economically, politically and socially. What comes of that unified government is a matter of some division. But on the flip side, other territories actually want to keep things the same. Those backing this position say that Solhaven is better off remaining largely separated as it is, as other territories are capable of defending themselves without having to worry about bailing out other territories.

Here's a general breakdown of each of the Nine Territories and where they sit:

HYPERION
The de facto capital of the Solhaven Confederacy is largely behind the idea of a new central government, especially considering that it is likely that a new government will remained headquartered in Hyperion, the second largest city in Solhaven. Hyperion has remained on the "Unification" side the entire time, its delegates voting on resolutions to support a constitutional convention and other steps to push the debate forward.

ENCELADUS
The largest city in Solhaven has been a pivotal vote for the "Unification" side, as much of the Confederacy's business community resides here. With big business and the moneyed interests in Solhaven backing the "Unification" campaign, it made it almost certain that Enceladus would move to support a new government. Enceladus's delegates have been among the first to propose the varying resolutions putting together the Constitutional Convention.

MAGECASTLE
Along with Enceladus, the powerful southwestern port city of Magecastle is dominated by big business. Though somewhat less enthusiastic about a central government clamping down on their control of Magecastle's economy, the business and financial interests in the territory swung behind the "Unification" side in the belief that in the end result, they could control the new government no matter what or who was in power.

MIMAS
Mimas, an eastern territory with a border with Goldecia and a rich history of military prowess, has become one of the hotbeds of anti-Adwestian sentiment as an extension of the strife gripping much of the rest of Kvaenna these days. As such, the Mimas delegations to the Council quickly jumped on proposals to join the "Unification" side. Mimas's military-industrial complex rivals that of most other Kvaennan nations, and throwing its support behind unification essentially gives the Constitutional Convention all the key pieces it needed to essentially succeed. But, that is not to say that Mimas is totally behind unification. While its delegations favor unification, the citizens of the territory do not. That fact alone will make it treacherous for Mimas later on down the road.

HIGHWYN
The north-central territory of Highwyn serves as a key route point between Enceladus and Magecastle and as such tons of money flows through the territory. Despite the money power, Highwyn is still largely agrarian - 57% of all the agricultural output of Solhaven comes out of the Highwyn territory - and also very conservative. As such, the territory's delegates in the Council have cast conflicting votes. In the initial debate, Highwyn came out against unification along with Mallowlyn and Meadowgate. But in the second vote in the Council, Highwyn swapped sides and voted to initiate debate on the issue. The territory of Highwyn is highly divided over the issue.

ESTERRIVER
The south-central territory of Esterriver, much like Highwyn in the north, is deeply divided by the issue of unification. Esterriver, a territory wounded by crime and near-lawlessness at times, is one of the industrial heartlands of Solhaven. With talk of unification abound, Esterriver is fearful of what a central authority could do to the industrial and manufacturing structures in the entire territory. Because of the divisions in the territory, the Esterriver delegates in the Council could not agree on a consensus decision on the first vote on the issue of unification. The delegates then got their act together and voted solidly against starting debate on unification and calling for a convention. Now, outnumbered, it is unclear how far Esterriver is willing to go to stand in the way of unification.

MEADOWGATE
The northwestern territory of Meadowgate, a fishing port city with a strong industrial background, has been a consistent opponent of unification. Meadowgate territorial officials have repeatedly resisted attempts by the Council to regulate the territory's fishing activities and it is in no mood for a stronger central government to move in and attempt to interfere. In both of the first two Council votes, Meadowgate voted unanimously against both resolutions moving the unification debate along. It is highly likely that Meadowgate will do everything within its powers to try and stop unification if given the chance.

GRIFFINFORT
The southernmost territory of Griffinfort - the city itself mere dozens of miles from the border with Adwest - is much like Highwyn in divisions between urban and rural. But the biggest problem in Griffinfort is the issue of border security and - to a lesser extent - xenophobic attitudes throughout the territory. To that end, Griffinfort's delegation has been a pivotal vote. Early on, Griffinfort backed the original proposals for a new government. But for some reason, it turned on its heel and went the other way on the convention vote. It appeared that Griffinfort wasn't content to battle it out with the other territories and just wanted to create a new government and start it up.

MALLOWLYN
Mallowlyn, sitting on the western coast and facing the Detectatian Sea, is a fairly liberal city and is a cultural center. But like other territories, Mallowlyn is divided on the issue of unification. In the debate, Mallowlyn went against unification in the original Council vote. But as time went along, Mallowlyn's mood swung enough for its delegation to vote for creating a constitutional convention. But with the territory seemingly moving towards unification, it definitely appears Mallowlyn will look to make any new government as liberal and as free-flowing as it can be.

Why am I telling you all this? Well... I want to play out this whole convention. And I'd like to hope I can get some help with that. There are eight open slots (I'd likely play Hyperion), and all of them have their own strengths, weaknesses and agendas. Just like the Constitutional Convention likely did back in the 1780s.

So... what do you all think? Who wants to decide (or f*** up) a country's future?
