Hey, I know what you’re thinking. How did I get to post this the same day I promised. Well you see...
I’m sure you’re all history buffs and can point to where I’m wrong. Please no bully I’m just trying to make a point of sorts.

The Great War was a started from a domino effect of allied nations. Most of the leaders of both sides imagined the war to be over by Christmas of ‘14. By the end of it, in November of 1918, the world lost tens of millions of lives to not just the war, but one of the worst biological outbreaks in hundreds of years, the Spanish flu.

The immediate aftermath was not much better for the world. Ideas such as communism and fascism were the byproducts of the war. In Russia, Lenin was attempting to change a way of life that kept the poor and downtrodden in serfdom and poverty. Italians, felt their gains of the war were not enough. Mussolini and his party wanted to assert Italy’s superiority and strength and to avoid succumbing to decay and failure.

Technologically, the First World War saw the use of airplanes and zeppelins, biological warfare, machine guns, and bolt action rifles. The first decade of mass produced automobiles were used as medical wagons and supply trucks. Cavalry diminished and gave way to armored cavalry; tanks. In a way, man had pushed war to the limits. So much so that the world convened a third time to Geneva, to protect the rights of Prisoners of War who were treated horribly in the Great War.

My goal in this long rambling post is to bring the idea of making a more uniform canon in the form of a needlessly bloody war that scars our history even to this day. A historical event that effected not just The super powers we all know and hate, but it’s overseas colonies and perhaps even non-aligned nations around the world. Ideas such as fascism, communism, de-colonization, The League of Failure or Nations, as well as a host of human rights conventions that would take hold after the war. Perhaps the nations of Siora would learn from their Great War and not fall into a second like we did.

When it comes to what era this war happened, I lean to just a tad earlier than our RL First World War. Perhaps it wouldn’t the Wright-Or Wryke Brothers in Nyland flying the first plane in peacetime but flying it up out of necessity of for the war effort. In other words whenever 1900 AD was (Me thinks 1450s??). It would not only allow us to be different slightly from our real life counterpart but give more leeway as to who discovered some of the most important inventions of the early modern age. The telephone, the automobile, film, U-Boats, the machine gun, the bolt action rifle, and so on.

Now, one other thing before I stop rambling. So, my goal from this is to create a sort of codified lore or timeline of major breakthroughs, events, and battles. Because some of us, mostly Ayzek/Lines, have made important contributions to this great world’s history. And I think that having a nice long list on this site would allow people to avoid making the same claim as someone else a decade earlier. Perhaps this timeline would have a sort of form to fill out to add important events to it over time. I see it being much more friendly to not only newcomers but for those not wanting to read through the same wiki page 3 times before finding the right date.

Anyways please give any feedback to the idea and on how we would go about putting this war into effect. If you don’t want a world war please go ahead and say so, so maybe we can change this idea to something else, compromise or agree to disagree. Also some feedback on some sort of OOC timeline of sorts would be good too.

Bukovina, Saratov
Septem 1598

With the announcement by West Brigidna of a Brigidnan economic alliance. The Saratov government saw this as a threat to the economic integrity of Marzanna. Two years prior, Saratov had engaged in negotiations of a "Marzannan Free Trade Commission" with Mordvania which sought to promote Marzannan business across the world and integrate the economies of central Marzanna. The negotiations eventually ended up breaking down after a political crisis rocked Saratov. The Saratovan government saw this as an opportunity the repair the old wounds still left unhealed by the USR, and release itself from Severyan influence. The messages were delivered to the nations originally intended for the Free Trade Commission; Mordvania, Nenstia, Biyra, Valisfoldek, Videjszeme, as well as Harmajaa, Ceribia, and Karjelinn.

The starting subject was a Customs union to serve as the starting point towards further economic integration.

Roavenalev, Karjelinn

It was late at night as the figure walked down the dimly lit street. They approached a building before pausing, to check for any onlookers. Seeing none, they continued their approach. Arriving, they set down a backpack and pulled out several cans of fresh spray paint before getting to work tagging the building.

Occasionally, the figure would check for approaching vehicles but oddly, none came. 

Before too long, they were finished. Stowing the cans in the backpack, the figure picked it up and walked away, as quietly as they arrived. 

Nearby, a dog barked as the figure fled.

As dawn broke, and the sun rose over the horizon, the handiwork of the figure could be seen. In bold colours, a single word: FRIDDJAVOUHTA, or freedom in the Saamo language. The building upon which the words were now presented was nothing less than a Saamo re-education building, and all of those who would visit it today would see this message. 

The question was, would the message sent be the same as the message received?

Siora Superprix

Huakarta, Drubang
Early Spring, 1597

The mist moved in with the ocean breeze, as Admiral Hideki Onegada paced the upper deck of his flagship. It was Drubangs first naval carrier, and the largest ship in the fleet. It was heavily armed, and not only by the accompanying cadre of aircraft that were in its belly. 

At his command, the massive hulk of metal moved, along with several other vessels. The Drubangi fleet was on its way northeast, to engage in some... questionable diplomacy with the so-called Free Heiwanan States. 

First, however, they would rendezvous with other Drubangi military elements in Kityakishi where they would assemble and develop their plan. The goal was not to seize all of the islands. Just the ones Drubang saw as the most important. They would likely ignore the largest island, Mitasai, as it would be difficult to slog through. The smaller islands, however, would likely be easier to deal with, as any sort of threat of bombardment would likely spook them into submission. Or so they Drubangi leadership hoped. 

While the Free Heiwanan States were technically associated, it was very loose, and coordinating themselves effectively would take some time. Time that the Drubangi would hope to take advantage of.

Back home, the President For Life, Tomat Mogu, had high expectations, not only for this campaign, but for another, more significant campaign on the mainland that was still being planned. 

 For now, things were still quiet. It was a nice morning, and there was no reason to ruin it just yet.

The Capital District, West Brigidna
Septum, 1598

There had been much work in the capital district over the past several years, on developing new systems, integrating old ones, and forming the new state. This work was long and difficult, and had found at least moderate success in most areas. 

With the foundation of the new West Brigidnan Union the matter of old ties became a topic of conversation. Namely, the West Brigidnan Economic Agreement (WBEA) which had been initially formed in the 1570s after being deliberated upon for some years, even decades if one considered some of the most early academic discussions. 

With the new state being formed the WBEA was now largely a moot point outside of members Kave and Ostland. Rather than continue the WBEA, however, it could be simple enough to just establish close economic relations with the two rather small states, and maintain some of the agreements in the WBEA, such as currency and open borders. 

The WBEA always had ambitions for being something more but never developed as such. The times were never right, and rival economic organizations developed in tandem, such as the one spearheaded by the Lanlanians.

However in recent years the climate had changed. Lanlania softened. Nerysia began slowly opening itself up. There was a group within the WBU legislature who had ambitions of a larger WBEA, not just for the West Brigidnan states, but perhaps the entire continent. Eventually, the more ambitious leaders believed, they could go global. This was seen as perhaps overly ambitious, but for them, such lofty goals typically resulted in an achievement somewhere near the destination, even if not quite so far. 

So, an email was crafted -- a rough agenda of topics to discuss. The major and more ambitious pieces were there, open borders, currency, and others. As well there were minor pieces that would likely be easier to agree on, such as visas, imoorts/exports, tariffs, etc.

The email highlighted the success of the WBEA at uniting diverse peoples and building a robust economy (one of the largest in the world) and how, on a larger scale, this could potentially be reproduced. 

The email was sent to all the nations of Brigidna, from the large, the Lanlanias, Nerysias, Severyanes, to the moderates, the Gehennas, the Lomarres, the Karjelinns, to the smalls, the Nentsias, the Ashfords, the Harmajaas. 

It was incredibly ambitious. It was likely to be unsuccessful, at least in some capacity. It was bold. It was done.

And so, a pebble was pushed down a hill. Where it would land, and what it would do along the way, was still unknown.

Slovograd, Republic of Mordvania | Elva, 1597

"What do you think, then?", Demeter Bradek asked. Bradek, editor-in-chief of the "Slovogradanski zvon", the oldest newspaper in Slovograd, was visibly nervous, finishing his glass of whisky without looking away from the woman sitting in front of him.

"It would be such a great story, obviously", Vera Matrusek answered. "But who's behind this? We were not offered this information without a purpose".

"I can't tell you who's our source", Bradek replied. "I don't know exactly who may be behind this, although I have my suspects it would be only a speculation. But it's a trustworthy source, and that it's all that should matter".

"...You know that we have published articles from more doubtful or dark sources, you included", Bradek continued. "Besides that, this could save our newspaper. We could barely finish our payments in the last three months. This without counting that hill of debts we are sitting above..".

"I know, I understand", Vera Matrusek said. "The recordings have so many cuts and jumps...It's obvious that someone wants us to know certain things but ignore others".

"That's obvious", Bradek replied. "It's better to manage this carefully. For the coming weeks, only you and Milan will be working on this. But you won't have that much time, we need to start this before it could backfire".

"Unfortunately", Vera said, "this won't end our problems. Rather we are facing new ones soon. It won't be easy. We can barely make it work day by day after our staff was reduced".

"I know", Bradek replied. "It was not my choice. But in either case, we have no other option right now".

HEAR ye, hear ye, the 1597-98 session of the Nyland Federal Assembly is now in session. All Honourable Assemblypersons, do please take your seats for role-call.

Within these halls, all legislative decisions for Nyland shall take place. Anyone from any party shall be allowed to present legislation for consideration, but only one bill may be active upon the floor for debate and vote at any one time. Furthermore, during debate, one must clearly state who is being recognized to speak on the floor, their party (if applicable), and then put forth their statement or argument for or against the bill and other points of discussion; one may refer to others arguments if they so desire, but they shall refrain from direct outbursts on the floor without having been called to the floor to speak.


The Rules
This is meant to be a fun thing where anyone can pop in as an assemblyperson of Nyland's legislature, and legislation by no means has to remain serious or solemn. There are a few basic rules to consider, however:

1) Legislation for the period can only be presented during an open period for submittal. The status of the Bill Submittal period is located above. If you miss the posting period, tough shit; hold onto it for later.
2) Submitted Bills are first-come, first-served. If emergency stuff happens, such as natural disaster or a state of war, a separate thread will be created. (No more Tambossa-style "vote only" unless time is really, really of the essence)
3) There are no time limits on debate. If the session ends before debate finishes, or we don't get through the queue of bills, then tough shit, it's gone; remake it in the next session.
4) To move for a vote, two people must motion for a vote. Voting will then begin in this thread, with people posting whether they vote for or against, and which party they represent.
5) After a bill moves to a vote, there is no revote; will not be re-submitted until the next session.
6) Votes will be weighted by party, and the party's votes split based upon those who recognize themselves as from such party. Individual people may of course split their alloted votes amongst (yes), (no) and (abstain) if they so wish.
7) Any Bill that passes a vote, regardless of how trivial or silly, will move to the President's Desk for consideration; the President must post his approval/denial in this thread.
8) Any bill denied by the President may still become law with a 2/3 majority in favor in the legislature; any bill approved by the President is in immediate effect and becomes law throughout Nyland.
