Brief description of your country
Presidential system of government, although has historically seen only one political party winning power across branches of government being the Conservative Nationalist Party (CNP). Increasingly isolationist, Alturia is fiercely independent and does not believe in ceding or pooling it’s national sovereignty. It is an increasingly self-sufficient nation, with a strong manufacturing sector with a new drive to increase services and agriculture, it has pursued policies of economic nationalism and protectionism in the past. Alturian’s are more likely to be socially conservative, and are strongly supportive of the current social order where LGBT+ individuals are stigmatised, abortion is illegal in all circumstances, divorce is forbidden and the role of women are seen to be family-makers rather than contributing workers.

Other political parties do exist, however due to their divided nature are unable to combine and offer a strict alternative with opposition parties ranging from social democrats, liberals, communists and socialists with the First-Past-The-Post system working against them.

The Constitution encourages an authoritarian style of government placing significant powers in the hands of the President including the ability to push through legislation against the wishes of the legislature and judiciary. Although, this power has not been used in the nations 160 year history.

I envision Alturia, slowly but surely, opening up it’s markets and expanding it’s international image through it’s military might - seeking to advance it’s own interests where possible through military means if necessary (different for me i know) - I also foresee the ability of the minor political parties to slowly break through the political system (not necessarily sweeping elections but expanding influence and trying to reform the Alturian system) by possibly using international community members as rationale to try open Alturian minds to reform.

Brief description of your country

Arijord is a country that was formed from a number of barbarian tribes that were united under one kingdom. For a good two centuries in the Medieval Ages, they were vicious raiders of the seas, and were feared by even the most powerful of kings.  However, change came to the country in the form of military defeats at the hands of numerous military coalitions to deal with the barbarian state. The kingdom became much more moderate, opting to halt expansion and raids to stop drawing attention to themselves.

In the years preceding, an emphasis was put upon armed neutrality, as Arijord was ripe for the pickings for rival kingdoms that were most certainly out for blood. A now ancient custom was established, where that every man would have to serve in the military for a set number of years, and would have to be ready to combat an invading army at a moment’s notice. The status quo continued for years, with the neutral kingdom making a name for itself as a trade hub and a place of neutral ground.

Eventually, the royalty was disposed of after a rather confusing succession crisis caused the monarchy to lose any legitimacy it once had, forming a confederal republic. The king was replaced with a Federal Council, and the jarls were forced to give their power to regional councils, mirroring the original setup of the tribal councils from the very, very early days of Arijord.

The Republic has stood for about 200 years, with the nationwide conscription laws still in effect. Arijord is still known for being a center of finance and wealth, along with being prevalent producers of precision machinery and hydroelectric power. Their commitment to neutrality and peace makes them good ground to put international organizations and sign peace treaties on. Nonetheless, Arijord is doing quite well for itself.

The people of Arijord are largely homogeneous, with most coming from the original tribes that made up the Kingdom of Arijord in the first place, at least in the region Arijord now inhabits. The people there are known for being very athletic, and many Arijordians have blonde hair and blue/green eyes, remnants from their ancestors. Their language is an evolution of old Pagan languages, unique but largely in the Genic family. The religion is also a moderate, slightly updated from their old Pagan beliefs and customs, with the Hammer of Thor, or Mjolnir, being the prime religious symbol. Mjolnir is also used as a representation of the nation as a whole, and is also on the flag.

Arijord, meaning 'land of the eagle', has some meaning to the name of it. The eagle, while not seen on the national flag, is another national symbol, often seen on state seals and the like. It is also on the city seal of Jannaskaro, the original city from which the Arjirodian king ruled.

Their diplomatic strength comes from their neutrality, where they have no rivals, nor strong allies. Not only that, but the conscription laws make them hard to invade as well. Overall, it’s just very good diplomatic and corporate neutral ground.

Brief description of your country
Varenthia is a federation of two Major States, as well as three Minor States. The two Major States, Aserthia and Vainland which are representative of the two main ethnicities in Varonthia, the Asers and the Vains both which are sub-groups of Geinic origin. The three remaining Minor States are historically situated as protectorates that managed to survive various annexations and warsby the two major states; they are Baronserg (The Capital and current city-state), Ladinva, and Anvalt. Anvalt has a major Laurenthian minority, however the minority has declined in recent years due to inter-breeding and lack of cultural support by the main government.

Varenthia was originally known as the Aserthia-Vainic Dominion, before the Uprising of 1389 caused the King to abdicate his position in both states of the personal union. To stop a potential crisis from foreign states, and inter-ethnic fighting; a federation was formed that preserved the old ways of life while safeguarding the rights of the people. Because of this, Varenthia remains fairly socially conservative, while its economic policies drift more and more to government investment into a major free market of the people.

Varonthia is distinct in that while no longer a true monarchy, the term High Republic is used to represent the aristocratic nature of Varonthia society, Aristocratic families make up 12.5% of the population, and are either granted an Alderman in the council due to status, wealth, achievements, or elect aldermen from set electoral districts. Families can either be recognized by the Council or from their specific state, however their status may be lost due to crimes of a family member, loss of wealth, and other reasons. Families may also be ‘culled’ in that certain branches are cut off from their status due to the family being termed ‘too large’ or those specific family members being too much of a nuisance.

Aristocratic families and their members have no special legal rights, however they typically have better access to educational facilities, private healthcare (Varenthia however does have an extremely advanced universal public healthcare system for regular citizens), military and public service positions. Commonly, Aristocrats are referred to as Highlanders, and regular citizens as Lowlanders. While historic strife exists between the two communities, recently with more additions to Aristocratic status through scientific, artistic, civil and diplomatic achievements earning an Aristrocratic title is the ultimate form of meritocracy within Varenthia.

All states of the High Republic follow a republican form, and are federally required to have equal and just representation for nonaristocratic families.

The High Court is made up of only highlanders due to the insane judicial record and education requirements to get to the position, while legally not a requirement, by the time an individual is eligible to put on the High Court, they are typically already Highlanders through achievement if not birth.

The High Chancellery is also typically a highlander position, however Lowlanders have held the position in the past, and have held it more frequently in recent times. Currently it is a Highlander.
Varenthia is a nation who focuses on the achievements of its citizens, therefore it places a firm interest on education as well as scientific funding. Tertiary education is provided for all citizens without charge based on their interests and estimated abilities. Varenthia has some of the highest science funding per capita in the world.

Due to a strong history of conflict due to its neighbors and within its own history. Varenthia maintains a strong military with keen interests on its navy and air force; while not historically wishing to be a colonial power, Varenthia focused its resources into infrastructure at home resulting in a highly developed nation.

Since 1569 to 1580 Varenthia maintained a relatively non-interventionist policy, even as fascist movements swept into neighboring Nerysia, and caused civil war within Lochland which caused the nation to split in half. However, political forces in the country have now since evolved to accept the geopolitical reality, and understand that in the future firm stances must be met.

The Council of Alderman is considered the upper house, and where most legislative work is done, the Sovereign Assembly being mainly used for confirmation of bills that originated in the Council of Alderman. If the Sovereign Assembly votes against the motion, it is defeated unless the Assembly then passes its own version of the motion that then requires Alderman approval.
While political parties do exist in Varenthia, four main Aristocratic families control the major parties, or at the very least influence the political movement behind them. The Brittainians (Conservative; Social Darwinism{insert Lanlanian version here}), the Starks (Generally moderates), the Katenbourghs and the Lavetes (Left-leaning/Progressive families). The High Chancellors of Varenthia have gone from these four families for the past few hundred years. The Starks and their head of the family have held the position since
1501, due to the creation of a ‘the national scale of balance” in which Brittainians, Katenbourghs, and the Starks would form the government together with their respective parties and achieve consensus on most issues.

The Starks would hold the Chancellery, the Brittainians the Vice-Chancelleries of Defense and The Treasury, and the Katenbourghs the Vice-Chancelleries of Justice and Commerce; with the rest of the Vice-Chancelleries being distributed depending on the government agenda after each election.

Due to the growing power of Nerysia over the past few decades, and fascist movements springing up throughout its neighboring lands, Varenthia remained isolationist for awhile, just kinda tending to its own things trying to keep the water from blowing off the top in its own nation. Instead, just keeping its markets openned to everyone, and investing more into more peaceful applications of science while its military only maintained modernization programs instead of massive overhauls or major projects. Since things have since kinda cooled down, Varenthia wants to get more diplomatically active, while maintaining a sort of neutralish policy as to not anger Nerysia.
