Separatists set off bombs in Carruth
Iohannes Leoninga

Eleven people were killed and at least twenty injured today, including five police officers, in St. Guthbert, Carruth, when two car bombs exploded in the streets near a police station. A Carruth separatist group called the Feohtend Freolsdom Carruth, FFC, or Carruth Freedom Fighters, took responsibility almost immediately, claiming to have targeted the police station because of its role as an "institution used to oppress the people of Carruth." This is the deadliest terrorist attack by any separatist group in several years. The police station was heavily damaged in the blast, and a police spokesman was unable to say whether or not the station could still be used until repairs were made.

St. Guthbert is the capital city of the Arrenlander overseas territory of Carruth, an island off the north coast of Avidna. It has been the site of much violence in the past as separatists continue their fight against the government of Arrenland. Most of the violence in recent years has been contained to assassinations and shootings. This is the first time in over a decade that a bomb has been exploded in a public area. The Chief of Police for St. Guthbert has stated that the investigation into the bombing is ongoing, but that initial findings point to separatists being responsible. General Beorham, commander-in-chief of the Royal Army in the Overseas Territories has vowed to redouble the military's efforts to crack down on separatist terrorism by providing more support to local law enforcement, "among other things."

Arrenlander officials blame Brymme for supporting separatists
Iohannes Leoninga

Sources within the Arrenlander government have pointed the finger at the nearby island nation of Brymme for supporting separatist groups on Carruth and some other Arrenlander overseas territories. At least two high-level officials who have access to classified intelligence briefs have told The Eadingtun Post, on the condition of anonymity, that Brymme is responsible for channeling funds to certain separatist groups, some of which have been involved in the violence on Carruth; although the Carruth Freedom Fighters, who claimed responsibility for the recent bombing in St. Guthbert, were not directly connected to the Brymmish government.

Brymme is a small island country just south of Arrenland. There have been on-and-off tensions between the two countries for several decades, but these recent accusations and the pressures of separatist activities in the overseas territories will doubtlessly lead to a new bout of harsh criticism from both sides.

Near miss in incident between Arrenlander and Brymmish patrol vessels
Iohannes Leoninga

Two patrol boats of the Arrenlander Royal Coast Guard and the Brymmish Navy nearly collided following an hour-long standoff between the two vessels. The Royal Coast Guard stated that at approximately 5:35 a.m., they received a call for assistance from an Arrenlander fishing vessel which reported being "harassed" by a Brymmish vessel. When they dispatched a patrol boat to the scene, the Coast Guard said, it spotted a Brymmish Navy patrol boat about 200 feet from the fishing vessel. A standoff occurred, with both vessels refusing to leave the area at the demands of the other. A spokesman for the Brymmish Navy said that the Arrenlander fishing vessel was violating Brymme's exclusive economic zone. Although neither side has clearly explained how, the two patrol boats nearly collided. Eventually, the fishing vessel moved to other waters.

This latest incident between the two island countries is likely to only increase already high tensions following the terrorist bombing in St. Guthbert, Carruth. The Royal Navy has announced that they will take over coastal patrols from the Royal Coast Guard around the island of Flimingberg, a small island between Arrenland and Brymme, following this incident.

Popular Party wins 1583 general election
Godric Æthelssunu, political reporter

Popular Party has won the 1583 general election. The Popular Party, led by firebrand populist Eadmund Dunstan, will begin the 1584 term with a majority in the Arrenlander parliament, the Witenagemot. They managed to secure their victory with a few key victories over the Conservative and Liberal parties, such as in the 4th District in Denfeldshire, which pushed them over the edge to holding a simple majority. The Office of Chancellor, which is elected by the parliament at the beginning of every term, will no doubt he held by Dunstan, whose party will be able to single-handedly elect him without forming a coalition government with another party.

The Popular Party campaigned on the voters' discontentment with mainstream politics, and had steadily grown in popularity over the past few elections. In his victory speech, Dunstan said, "It is time to get to work and fulfill our campaign promises! The people have spoken, they have rejected the establishment and their sleazy, petty politics. We will rebuild our nation into an industrial and economic power to be reckoned with, we will reestablish our dominance of the seas, and retake our place as one of the great powers of the world."

King Iohannes has been characteristically silent throughout the campaign process. Ever since taking the throne from his father, Leafsig, he promised to rule in a hands-off manner, and to allow the people, through the democratic process, take full control of the country's destiny. King Leafsig himself abdicated shortly after ascending to the throne when his own father, Eardwulf, passed away. Eardwulf was 96 years old and had been king for several decades. Leafsig said that he did not want to leave his own son to be perpetually heir apparent for decades, and to only take the thrown in his old age, like he himself had.

Shots fired between Arrenlander and Brymmish naval vessels
Iohannes Leoninga

Both Arrenlander and Brymmish official government sources have confirmed that a violent incident occurred on the morning of Zechyr 11 between naval vessels of Arrenland and Brymme. Both governments have released official statements concerning the incident, however exact details were scarce. All The Eadingtun Post has been able to confirm is that shots were fired and at least two Arrenlander sailors and one Brymmish sailor were killed.

Both governments have blamed the other for the incident. "A Royal Navy patrol boat based out of Flimmingberg attempted to intercept a reported incursion by a Brymmish vessel into Arrenland's territorial waters," a spokesman for the Arrenlander Royal Navy said. "When the reported vessel was intercepted inside Arrenland's territorial waters, an incident occurred involving a short exchange of fire. At this time, two sailors have been confirmed dead."

In a contradicting statement, a spokesman for the Navy of Brymme said, "A Navy patrol vessel was dispatched following a report received concerning a possible violation of Brymme's territorial waters by a vessel of the Arrenlander Navy. When the vessel, which was confirmed to be of the Arrenlander Navy, was intercepted it was in violation of Brymme's territorial waters. The interception was followed by a violent incident in which fire was exchanged. The last I was informed, one sailor had been confirmed dead."

The past couple of months have been fraught with heated rhetoric between the two nations and numerous incidents at sea following the Quartyr 12 terrorist attack in St. Guthbert. The government of Arrenland has accused Brymme of supplying financial aid to separatist groups within Arrenland, one of which was connected to the massacre. Brymmish financial assets in Arrenland were frozen in late Quartyr. However, this is the first time that blood has been spilled as a direct result of military action between the two nations.
