I know about online diplomacy, but as Oer says, this game is manually run by ourselves so we can control the rules and the pace. Not everyone is available at the same time to play such online games for example. Besides, diplomacy is a board game. Its made for manual hosting, and with photoshop its not much more work than it would be in real life.
