Expansion Campaign

What is an Expansion Campaign?
An Expansion Campaign is an action where a Player determines that he/she wishes to expand their country's borders into an area that is not claimed or occupied by another Player's country. An Expansion Campaign can be set at any reasonable point in in-game history, though some reasonable restrictions may be applied as we discuss such things. Additionally, we give some pretty big leeway in allowing Players to determine these campaigns and it's fine for people to want to be bigly countries (or not).

What might influece whether or not my application is accepted or denied?
Preferably we won't need to deny any expansion requests; we all want to have fun and write and tell our countries' stories. Hopefully, most requests get approved and we get treated to some fun and interesting writing.

Ideally, the only time you'll see a denial for an expansion is if:
  1. You are requesting expansion after expansion. There's technically no limit to the amount of concurrent campaigns you have, and we're always willing to work with you so you can write the stories you like. However, lets' try to respect others, exercise some restraint and not gobble up all the "best" land immediately just because we can; chill for a minute, maybe focus on some internal aspects of your country, and come back later.
  2. Someone else has an active expansion campaign in that area. This isn't a problem - simply join in that person's expansion, either with or against them, and sort it out between you two. Maybe you never will, and this becomes a point of contention for future RP?
  3. Your country is reasonably not able to perform the expansion. This isn't the same as risking an expansion that you might fail - I'm all for allowing you to fail. What I mean is, what you have in mind fundamentally cannot work. Don't be discouraged, we'll work through the specifics together to get a workable scenario for you.
This isn't all inclusive, as there may be other reasons. The overarching point, though, is that we'll likely work with you to get you writing.

Further Notes
I don't know. I had some ideas, but I forgot them. I guess the main point is, as I alluded above, submitting an application to expand into an unclaimed area is not a big "reserved" sign; if someone feels like challenging you for that area, then you better be prepared to defend your claim.

You can find a more extensive list of stuff that's happened in role play here...if people bothered to add it.
