Eternity Minecraft - Server is Live!
#51
The big update is here! The server is back! *throws funfetti*

The map error (rather, oversight) has been fixed, and the map is currently being regenerated. These fixes will result in improved performance on my machine, and the map should load faster in your browser. Nice!

Also, Flo's been made a server moderator, mostly because I trust him to build Really Cool ShitTM for all the server to enjoy. Don't fuq up my server, boi-o.

In addition, while working on this, several new plugins were installed and have now been configured, to award everyone for their patience:
- Vault
- ChairsReloaded
- Minepacks
- EssentialsX (still awaiting expansion plugins)
- Per-world Inventory
- uSkyblock (also "Cleanroom Generator," but that's simply for me to spawn blank maps)
- Multiverse2 ("Core" & "Portals")

Most of these do little more than add additional functionality for future changes (like Skyblock, Vault, & Multiverse). however, several give players on the server additional commands and abilities to use, and I know you're going to love them and wonder how you ever lived without them! Let's go through them, so you know what's waiting for you (as a rule, you can type /help <plugin name> for all commands associated with that plugin, or just /help for every command you can access):

- - EssentialsX - -
A fork of the abandoned "Essentials" plugin, this plugin ads huge changes and functionality to users...and the things I've allowed for you to do aren't even a fraction of what it can do or allow! You can send/receive mail, use private messages, set home locations and teleport to them at willAs a matter of fact, the collection of commands is so massive, I don't have time to list them all here for your convenience. BUT! I will try to at least give a rundown of some of the most important stuff:
Sign commands:: you can set up signs to perform certain functions! Currently, only trading (which may not work yet, sans an economy), disposal (trash), and mail signs can be made, but more may be added in the future. You can read about how to make these special signs here.
Mail:: You can send and receive mail, for offline private communications! Use /mail in game for instructions and to use your mail.
Private chat:: You can now send private chat messages in game! Type /msg <username> (or /m, /t, /tell) to send a pm to that person; use /r (or /reply) to respond to someone you messaged, but you'll need to use /r <username> to change the target of your replies, of someone else messages you and you want to respond to them, instead.
Create & Teleport to Homes:: The most epic and useful of all, use /sethome <home_name> to set the location your standing on as a home location; use /home <home_name> to teleport to your home location (it automatically defaults to your bed). /delhome <home_name> will delete a home location.
Teleport to Spawn whenever you want:: /spawn
Go kill yourself...:: /suicide
...then go back and get your stuff:: You can go back to the last place you teleported from, or the last location where you died, with /back. Enjoy it while you can, this may disappear around/before the server goes public.
Get your bearings:: Find out where you are without cluttering debug info with /depth, /getpos, & /compass. If you've spent too much time spelunking, you can figure out what time it is with /time.
@ For a list of commands while in game, type /help essentials in chat.
@ For help on how to use some commands, and more detailed descriptions, see this link.

- - ChairsReloaded - -
Tired of ugly-ass minecart chair exploits, or nice-looking chairs that do nothing? Well, now you have working chairs! There are no commands here, just functionality. To make a working chair:
1) Place a stair block. Any stair block, in any number in a continuous string.
2) Place a blank sign on either end of the stair block.
3) Right click the stair to sit.
That's all there is to it. Smile

- - Minepacks - -
Frustrated with having to make, like, fifty trips to a storage chest while mining because your inventory got filled with 20 stacks of dirt/cobblestone and a handful of extraneous items that take up all the rest of your inventory even though they're not stacking? Me to! So I doubled your inventory size through the use of "backpacks!" What's more, you keep all the items in your backpack if you die, even if you die in lava! Convenient, innit?
Commands:
/backpack help - Lists all the commands of this plugin.
/backpack - Opens your backpack.
/backpack clean - Removes all items from the players backpack.

That's it, I guess. Go forth and build. o/

A couple things.

First, it's been reported that there's significant lag after teleporting using the /home command. Undoubtedly this also happens after a /back command too, but that wasn't told to me. Please be patient, as this is probably due to increased memory/cpu usage from the current map render process, whcih will be ongoing for the next week, at least; this process can produce lag. Anyhow, I'll look into this matter later, and add "bug & server performance fixing" to the to-do list.

Second, I need people to test out commands and features, and tell me if you think things aren't working as they should. If you find issues, either with plugins or in general, please log them in this thread, so that I will see and remember them. I will add a "known issues" section to the first post to track the discovery and resolution of these issues.

Third, I need you to resolve a debate I'm having with myself. I'm deciding between the inclusion of either Towny or Factions. I know someone likes Factions over Towny, but it's not so simple a decision as "which is better," because they are ostensibly two different plugins with different focuses, what happen to functionally perform many of the same tasks. In short:

- - Factions is more focused on combat between groups of players, using "power" to claim land and the loss of "power" through player deaths to open that land up for conquest by other factions. With is, all members of a faction can mine, build, etc within faction lands, for the collective good of the faction. It is the simpler and easier to use of the two, for both faction leaders and members, but really requires a high degree of trust by faction leaders in that anyone in the faction can basically build or do anything on faction lands...unless you disallow things by certain people, which can make people frustrated with not doing hat they want to do and go form their own factions.

- - Towny is focused on town & nation development, encouraging outside recruitment by using straight town/nation population to determine faction sizes and how much land is claimable. Plots of land can be bought and sold, rent charged, and permissions granted by both the mayor and plots of land to a high degree of customization. While warfare can and does exist between nations, the emphasis lies less in pvp conflict and more in civilization-building. It is the more robust and customizable of the two, allowing changes in permissions per chunk instead of faction-wide (so you can sell plots to people for their private use, create public markets or facilities for use by everyone or just your townmembers, etc), but it has lots of commands and can be very complex to use for faction leaders and members, and very fiddly in getting to do EXACTLY what you want it to do, and I don't think you can create more than one town.

Now, both have their upsides and downsides. I need your help in deciding on one over the other. I'm experienced in Towny, and I think I prefer it, but I know it slightly conflicts with the ideas some people have for what they want to do...

Server is currently down as I migrate the server files to an external hard drive. This is a temporary measure, which will only last until I get a separate hosting machine, which should be sometime by the end of May. In the meantime, you may notice a slight hit to performance on loading/unloading new chunks (I know this won't make things any faster), but it shouldn't cause any perceptible slowdown with as few people as we have using our server.

This process will allegedly take about 22 hours (lol!), because apparently the map is 9.8 million tiny files. No wonder my computer was so slow on startup...

I am interested in participating. I haven't been on in ages, been in the mood to play on a server, so count me in. Looking forward to when it's back online.

A Preview of Things to Come

This looks like some kind of new place!
I wonder if he left clues and information about it at the spawn house...

If you go there, bring food.
If you can't figure out how to return to the "normal" world, go to the crystal shown in that picture.

Hey! Killing things drops shinies and munny!
Wait, what's the munny for...?

I'll give a proper update on what's new, and all that jazz, either later tonight or tomorrow. For now, the server is back up, with lots of new things.

Another big update! Wooooow!

So I did some computer maintenance to speed things up. Turns out, having 9.8 million map files slows things down. Who'd have thought? Also had some issues with steam, got a new antivirus....it's been a productive week, actually. In the meantime, after all that happened, I did a lot of plugin installation and configuration, as well as finally getting the makings of a proper hub started, as you could see in the previous post.

But enough about me, what's new with the server? Well, first, we have lots of new plugins:
- PickupMoney
- Time is Money
- Hyperconomy (and its addons)
- Citizens (and an assload of modules to support/enhance it)
- Supertrails (shiny!)

As you can tell, the big buzzword this time is "economy," which is something I've been wanting to add for a while, but I couldn't decide on one that did everything I liked. Eventually, I ended up going with what was familiar to me, even though I'm still not 100% happy on it...but hey, can't have it all. (or can you...)

Anyway, what's all this stuff do?

- - PickupMoney - -
A plugin that makes it so monsters and blocks can drop monies! I've set it up so that not every monster drops money when they die (and they won't do it all the time), and I changed the drop rate and put a cap on money earnings over time, to get ahead of possible inflation (but you can increase the drop amount by using a weapon with "looting" enchanted on it). Gold, diamond, and emerald ore also drop money when mined. Players also drop money when killed by other players. Like...all their money. 100% of your purse is dropped on the ground when someone kills you. However, I know that can quickly cause salt and chaos, which is why we also have banking options!

There are no commands associated with this plugin. Just kill/mine things, and get money. Smile

- - Time is Money - -
Now you get money just for being logged in! It's a small amount, about $1 per minute every 10 minutes (for people without the special "vip" tag, which may be introduced later for donating to the server) but it does add up in the course of a day, a week, a month of building. You don't earn monies for being afk. This plugin also adds the option of banking via a sign-based "atm" which can be accessed via a right-click, which opens an interace whereby you can withdraw or deposit monies.

@ to make an ATM (assuming you have permissions) you set up a sign with this format: > click here <

- - HyperConomy - -
An all-in-one economy plugin, allowing for various kinds of shops and trading all in one plugin. Allows for a server-wide money-based economy with dynamic prices that can either change based upon supply, or be set manually by people in their shops. I haven't configured the economy completely as I still need to edit the database and tables and etc etc etc, but it "works" and that's the key thing. Sadly, i don't think I can set up the plugin to use items as money (like gold bars or emeralds, or whatever), so we're using arbitrary numbers to represent value. Use /balance to check your number of monies. I intend to set up a server-run central "bank" that'll accept your shinies in exchange for monies to spend, and various server shops from which to buy things that are otherwise hard to get.

Admitedly, there's a lot of commands to list here.
@ > Go here < for a list of commands for using HyperConomy
@ > Go here < for a list of commands for setting up your own shops and stuff

- - Citizens - -
I haven't fully configured this or set up permissions for it, but when I do, it'll allow for the creation of NPC sentinels, alchemists, builders, merchants, quest npcs, npcs that move about and do stuff during the day...lots of stuff. You'll be able to pay server monies for hiring and using your own npcs for your own nefarious purposes. I'll post more here when I get it fully set up.

- - SuperTrails - -
Shinies to wear! Type /trails to open the interface and pick soem really neat trails to follow you around and be pretty! This may go away later, but for now, enjoy being pretty.
