ANGIRISIAN EMPIRE

NATIONAL ELECTION 1584

It is that time again. The great dance of democracy, the day where millions of Angirisians go to their polls to vote for the representatives, senators and Chancellor of the Angirisian Empire. This year, though, the stakes are even higher as they have been for the last four cycles.

Now, three major national bodies are up for grabs between the four major parties. The Senate and the new House of Delegates - now combined in a new Imperial Congress - are complete tossups. Republicans are leading in the race for the Imperial Senate, but the Democrats are holding the line in the race for the Imperial House of Delegates. The Republican candidate for Chancellor, Petri Belisarius, is leading the polls but Democratic candidate Artemis Demetrios and Independent candidate Adrianna Almeda Alva are right on top of him, leaving the probability of a run-off elected ever more likely.

To win the race for the 375-seat House of Delegates, one of the four parties has to attain 188 seats for a majority. The likelihood of that happening doesn't look particularly good, though, so it would come down to some sort of a coalition to form a working majority in the lower house. For the 75-seat Senate as always, it takes 38 seats to win a working majority and that has not happened for nearly a decade. The race for Chancellor can be won with a simple majority, but in the event a simple majority is not attained then the race moves to a runoff round.

So... who will win? We'll find out by the end of this night! Stay tuned.

Community rules adopted!
After a long month of closed door discussions between admins, the new, flashy, fancy, shiny community guidelines were rolled into the light of day with much fanfare! The new guidelines were longer and more in-depth than the previously sparse set they were designed to replace, which had been criticised for a lack of both clarity and substance. Authors of the new ruleset spent a month drafting a document that answered formerly ambiguous questions of forum etiquette, rule enforcement, and administrative authority while community staff debated the finer points of the new changes.

Finally, the community released the final draft of the new formal community etiquette in early August for public comment, receiving substantial praise and some spurts of criticism from members of the community; the greatest criticism came from minority voices, who voiced concerns over the new "authoritarian" direction of the community administration. The official thread for comment remained silent of comment and criticism however, signaling the public's consent, and so the newly re-written regulations were quietly adopted after the deadline for comment passed on the eve of the 28th August.

Implementation of the new rules has gone over quietly throughout the community with surprisingly few hiccups during the transition, most of which remain related to new etiquette regarding the forum chatbox.

The oddly curious can view the new Eternity Community Etiquette through this link, but...why?

Forum roleplay map revamped!
While forum admins were gripping with the challenge of rewriting the rules, The Linear One, His Most Esteemed High Majesty, Lord of Creation, King Alldays (long may he reign) spent literal minutes improving the community'smodern roleplay map! Previously using a gradient, grey-scale map for topography with gaudy vibrant colors for countries, the new map makes use of super advanced alien AI to create super detailed height maps. Almost tens of people worldwide were nearly whelmed from the intense graphical changes, and now so can you, too!

Dying New Galasia
The story of revolution in Galasia continues with the near-collapse of Galasian regime forces to the Angirisian incursion. A war that started with a military overthrow of the country's government and monarchy, the Near East country of New Galasia has seen itself embroiled in the cauldron of civil conflict in its eastern enclave of Eastmarch for the last seven years as the local population used the coup in the west as a pretense to seek seek independence and their disparate other aims.

Angiris has intervened in the west, hitting the "illegitimate" military regime forces in a hard, powerful thrust south and west to end the supposed "government" and restore order to the chaos on its border. But, as Angiris focuses its attentions in the west, the fragile detente between militias in the east is broken when groups make final pushes to claim as much power and land as possible before the coming, inevitable talks of peace...a storm before the calm. What will come of the people in the East, especially when strong doubts still remain that the Angirisians really intend to give the Rojadavi their due independence?

Quote:Amrun stood stark still in a line with several older men, his rifle shouldered in the usual pseudo-military fashion his trainers had drilled into him over the past weeks. Short and wiry with a baby-clean face, he contrasted greatly with nearly all of the other men, the stocky men, the bearded men, the men with leathery bronze skin from decades of toiling under the hot Galasian sun.

Throughout his childhood, Amrun listened silently to the hushed discontent of his fathers, his friends' fathers, his grandfathers; the humiliation of using foreign words to talk about your own home, the continued occupation from the western pocket of the "country," the second-class treatment and constant reminders of subjugation and who your "betters" were. The antagonism was constant, yet fighting against it was pointless, as you had no rights, you were just mules to put profits into the pockets of western imperialists. You were expendable, a worthless brown savage in a savage brown land.

Not that they would do anything about it, of course. At least, not until the coup.

Eclipse fever grips Eternity
It's not every day That one gets to see an eclipse live in person, and in its totality. All to often the weather gets in the way, or we have schooling or work that prevents any viewing. Most commonly, the event just takes place somewhere far outside of where we live. The most recent one, however, captured the attention and imagination of many Eternity members several months in advance, with discussions taking place in June and some members researching long before even then. Excited viewers from across Eternity anxiously awaited the 21st of August.

With the cosmic event now behind us, certain people keep reminiscing. You can reminisce with them!

Statues, Idols, and Symbols ~~ Oh My
Recent events in the real world - or rather the US, same difference, really - have sparked several fervent debates across the community regarding several topics that have crept into the national consciousness. Mr Flo, ever interested tryign to understand different points of view, has opened several points of discussion on these topics in the Gentlemen's Club as an effort to get people to explore their positions further. Will the discussions stay that way? Who knows; in the world today, it's become increasingly uncommon to be able to hold a rational, respectful debate between two people of opposing viewpoints, as too often people nowadays forget that they are nto the sum of their opinions and get weirdly irate at the thought of not being entirely in the right.

But we in Eternity care. Yes, we believe, even despite our own failings, that proper discourse can still function to bridge our cultural and ideological divides like it used to do so long ago:

Quote:So it's more or less in the subject title and the photos above. In recent years, there has been significant pressure regarding confederate statues, flags, symbols, etc. in the public sphere. While there has surely been dissatisfaction with confederate statues, flags, symbols, etc. for some time, this came up significantly in 2015, when there was significant backlash regarding the confederate flags being used atop government buildings and in other public spaces, and since then has grown to encompass all sorts of confederate symbols and statues.

In the years since, confederate statues in particular have gotten a lot of bad press, and it seems every month or so there's another mayor announcing their city will be taking down statues or removing symbols from government spaces, parks, etc. Even streets names after significant confederate leaders have been targeted.

This topic will be available for members to discuss how they feel regarding the subject of Confederate symbols, flags, statues, etc. Feel free to rebut, discuss, confirm, debate, all you'd like. I get that there are significant branches this discussion could take that aren't all on topic, so try to stay as close to the primary topic as you can, which is the confederate flags, symbols, and statues and primarily their removal/defence, etc.

  Eternity RPC Slogan
Posted by: Alvino Castillon - 06-18-2017, 01:07 AM - Forum: Hall of Forever - Replies (8)

(Before anyone asks this is sanctioned by Lines so.)

So, Lines'll be posting an announcement about some stuff later but I wanted to go ahead and get this discussion started up as it relates to recruitment. I'm usually really over the top but I'm keeping this brief.

In short, a new recruitment campaign is being organized. And part of this campaign has to do with coming up with a slogan, because every brand has a slogan! McDonald's has "I'm loving it", Subway has "Eat Fresh" and we don't have anything. But we should. Because we need to really get our recruitment machines in order and this is a proper step towards doing this.

So how this will work is we're going to make a list of suggestions from the community and compile them together. Then we'll have a vote on which ones we like the most and that will become our new slogan. Keep in mind we need to go with something catchy and it should have the word Eternity in it at least.

List so Far:
Eternity RPC: Where the choices are infinite
Eternity RPC: Infinite Choices
Eternity: To Infinity
Eternity: Beyond Infinity

List of Real-life treaties transplanted into RP
Posted by: Ayzek - 06-16-2017, 10:19 PM - Forum: Treaties - Replies (5)

The following list will be non-inclusive and may be amended at any time. A link to RP-flavored text will be included where available and additionally details will be added where possible.

Convention on Diplomatic Relations: Athenne Convention on Diplomatic Relations

The Convention on Diplomatic Relations cements the rules of conducting diplomatic relations between independent states. Key elements are: a host nation may not arrest a diplomat, or touch diplomatic property without the sending state's permission, but may unilaterally expel or refuse to accept a person as a diplomat. Diplomatic relations are generally based on the concept of reciprocity: if you respect others, they'll respect you; if you completely disregard their rights, no one will like or trust you.

Every state is assumed a signatory unless its player mentions otherwise.

Convention on International Civil Aviation: Convention on International Civil Aviation
The Treaty on International Civilian Aviation Movment also known as the Esborg Treaty, established the International Aviation Organisation (IAOC), a specialized agency charged with coordinating and regulating international air travel. The Treaty establishes rules of airspace, aircraft registration and safety, and details the rights of the signatories in relation to air travel. The Convention also exempts air fuels in transit from (double) taxation.

The document was signed on Marth 10, 1492, in Esborg by 20 signatory states. It received the requisite 12 ratification on Dein 4 1494 and went into effect on Dein 4 1494, the same date that IAOC came into being. The Convention has since been revised five times (in 1507, 1515, 1527, 1547, and 1556).

Every state is assumed a signatory unless its player mentions otherwise.

Convention on the Law of the Sea: Athenne Convention on the Law of the Sea

The Convention on the Law of the Sea makes sure everyone's on the same page when it comes to the sea. It allows for claiming up to 12 nautical miles as a state's territorial waters, establishes the 200 nm off a country's coast as its exclusive economic zone, grants certain rights to landlocked states, and permits everyone innocent passage through straits and archipelago countries. You should read the wiki page for more information, cause I sure as hell don't know everything.

Every state is assumed a signatory unless its player mentions otherwise.

Biological Weapons Convention: Biological Weapons Convention
Bans the research and development of biological weapons for non-peaceful purposes. Mandates that other states should assist a state attacked by biological weapons.

Every state is assumed a signatory unless its player mentions otherwise.

Chemical Weapons Convention: Chemical Weapons Convention
Bans the research and development of chemical weapons for non-peaceful purposes. mandates that other states should assist a state attacked by chemical weapons.

Every state is assumed a signatory unless its player mentions otherwise.

Geneva Conventions: Lochway Conventions
These are too damn long for me to summarize on a whim, so tough. But they're essentially the rules of the war, and breaking them is bad. Rules of war exist so that the suffering of soldiers and civilians involved isn't too great, cause suffering is bad or some similar commie bull.

Every state is assumed a signatory unless its player mentions otherwise.

Montevideo Convention: Nyvattendel Convention on the Rights and Duties of States
This convention defines a "state" and its rights and duties. A state is determined to have a permanent population, a defined territory, a government, and the capacity to conduct diplomatic relations. All states are considered equal and no state has the right to intervene in the affairs of another.

The Sioran version differs from the real-life version in that it mandates diplomatic recognition of another state must be expressed explicitly, as opposed to be assumed de facto. It also doesn't frown on using force or the threat thereof to gain territory or special concessions. Because we're imperialists like that.

Every Avidnan and Skathian state is assumed a signatory unless its player mentions otherwise.

Outer Space Treaty: Outer Space Treaty
The Outer Space Treaty regulates the use of outer space. It prohibits the installation of weapons of mass destruction anywhere off the planet, and encouraged a team mentality and mutual assistance between space programs. It allows for visiting facilities of another state, and dictates that space-faring equipment of one nation must be returned to it should it land in the territory of another.

The Sioran version goes a step further and bans "rods from god" and other systems designed to bombard the planet from orbit.

Every state is assumed a signatory unless its player mentions otherwise.

  1585 Magentina National Elections
Posted by: Hadash - 06-16-2017, 10:11 PM - Forum: Elections - Replies (1)

Magentina 1585 National Assembly Elections

The Republic of Magentina's 333-member National Assembly (Lower House) elects both the Prime Minister and the President of the Republic (the latter along the Senate), supervises the work of the government and passes all laws. It was a mixed electoral system, 150 MPs are elected through a winner-takes-all system, while the other 183 MPs are elected through a national proportional representation system of political parties.

You will elect those 183 MPs elected through a national list for the 1585-1589 term. You have 2 votes.

Background

Emiliano Lafuente, Liberal Party leader, has been Prime Minister since 1578, and the current national government, following the 1582 elections, is formed by a right-wing minority government formed by a coalition of the Liberal Party, Action for the Republic, and the Conservative Party. In the last months, allegations of corruption and tax evasion have tainted the government and former officials, including several Lafuente's relatives. The opposition has demanded Lafuente resignation, and protests have called for stronger anti-corruption legislation and new elections.

The National Assembly failed to agree a new president -as the current president Clemente Aguafuertes ended his term in Alvan 1585- and therefore, as the constitution established, snap elections were called. As consequence, for first time since 1562, a new president and new Prime Minister could be elected at the same time - in case Emiliano Lafuente hasn't enough support to be reelected Prime Minister.

This election is taking place IC on late Alvan 1585, when the poll will be officially closed.

List of political parties:

Liberal Party (Partido Liberal)

The Liberal Party has been one of the most successful political parties in recent Magentinian history, with three presidents and and four prime ministers since 1506. Originally established as a centrist political party, the Liberal Party has shifted to the right since Emiliano Lafuente was elected leader in 1576. Today, the Liberal Party is considered a center-right political party, fiscal conservative while moderate on social issues.

The Liberal Party has been in government since 1562. Previously the party contended to the 1566, 1570, 1574, and 1578 as a leading member of the "National Democratic Union" (UDN) along the Reform Party. In the 1582 elections, however, the Liberal Party contended under the electoral coalition "Liberal Action for the Republic", after the UDN was dissolved shortly after the 1582 election, and Emiliano Lafuente elected Prime Minister with the support of the Action for the Republic party and the Conservatives.

Emiliano Lafuente will be the Liberal candidate again, looking for his third term as Prime Minister, despite allegations that relatives and former political allies were involved in tax avoidance.

Action for the Republic (Acción por la República)

Action for the Republic was founded by Mauricio Rojo, consider the founder of Magentina's Second Republic. Once the dominant political party in the country, its influence decreased in the 1520s, becoming a minor political party. It returned to power in 1558, under the leadership of Valentino Narváez, but it was unable to survive as consequence of poor management and a sudden financial crisis.

Once a liberal progressive center-left political party, Action for the Republic shifted to the right in the 1570s, and it is considered today a center-right political party. After the 1578 election, the Liberal Party and Action for the Republic agreed to form a coalition government, with the support of the Conservative Party, so Emiliano Lafuente was reelected as Prime Minister and two years later, Action for the Republic leader Clemente Aguafuertes was elected President of the Republic. In 1581, Liberal Party and Action for the Republic agreed to form a coalition for the 1582 election.

However, the coalition was unable to agree to reelect Aguafuertes as president or whom would replace him, and snap elections were called once no candidate was able to obtain enough votes as the constitution establishes. Action for the Republic decided to dissolve its electoral coalition with the Liberal Party and to contend the elections alone again.

The current leader of Action for the Republic is Valeriana Pastrana, former Minister of Education, who was elected President of Action for the Republic only a few months ago. While the party political platform is not very different from the current government policy, Pastrana has been rather ambiguous if she will try to join a coalition government with the Liberal Party again.

Democratic Reform Party (Partido Reformista Democrático)

Along the Liberal Party, the Reform Party -renamed as Democratic Reform Party in 1583- has been one of the two dominant political parties since 1518, when Santiago Loyola -Reform Party's founder- was elected Prime Minister. The Reform Party decided to run together with their former rivals the Liberal Party under a joint coalition -the UDN-, resulting in Reform and Liberal coalition governments from 1566 to 1582, when the coalition broke up shortly after the 1582 election, and the Reform Party returned to the opposition.

The PRD is considered a centrist social-liberal political party, with a free-market orientation on economic policy while more centrist or even center-left on social issues. On foreign policy, unlike the Liberal Party and Action for the Republic, the PRD has shifted from Magentina's traditional neutrality policy to a more moderately interventionist one, and it is considered more open to immigration than those two parties.

The Reform Party only obtained 12 MPs in the 1582 election, but it hopes to improve that result with a platform focused on education and administrative reforms and anti-corruption legislation. The PRD leader is Cecilia Montes who was already candidate in 1582. Montes has promised that she will not support Lafuente's reelection as Prime Minister, although declaring that the PRD will be willing to negotiate with any political party -excluding the ultra-nationalists.

Social Democratic Party (Partido Social Demócrata, PSD)

The Social Democratic Party is a center-left political party, founded in 1547. The Social Democratic Party has never been in government and after entering in parliament in 1550 and 1554, it failed to do so four years later. They were able to return in 1558, however, and since then they have consistently increasing their share of the vote. They obtained 51 MPs in 1570, and in 1574 they became for first time the main opposition party, after ending only 2 seats behind the ruling UDN. In the 1578 elections, the Social Democratic Party was the largest political party in the parliament, but their leader Severino Albarracín failed to form a government. The Social Democrats hope to obtain a larger majority this time which could allow them to form a government for first time in their history.

Antonina Cabrera replaced Albarracín as leader, and the PSD was again the largest party in the parliament in the 1582 election, obtaining 119 MPs, eight more than four years ago, but it failed again to form an alternative government. This time, the PSD hopes to obtain enough MPs to come to power for first time.

As the main left-wing political party in Magentina, the PSD has a rather progressive stance on social and moral issues, although it tends to focus on economic policy. It defends a social democratic and reformist economic program, aimed to increase funding to education and healthcare and the creation of social welfare programs for the poor. On fiscal policy, the PSD believes the government should have a more important role in the economy, although it is opposed to nationalization of private companies. On foreign policy, the PSD defends a more active foreign policy, specially in cooperation with other liberal democracies and progressive government.

Social Justice Party (Partido por la Justicia Social)

The Social Justice Party is a left-libertarian political party, created in 1583 after the merger of the Progressive Democratic Party and other left-liberal organizations, which has remained in the parliament since 1574 under the Social Alliance coalition as a minor political party. In the 1582 election, the Social Alliance obtained 10 MPs, being the smallest parliamentary group.

The Social Justice Party has as its main proposal the introduction of an universal basic income for all Magentinian citizens older than 16 years old. At the same time, the party has promised to reduce bureaucracy and a more effective anti-corruption legislation. On social issues, the Social Justice Party is considered left-liberal and it propose to reduce the restriction on immigration introduced by the last government.

Conservative Party (Partido Conservador de Magentina, PCM)
The Conservative Party is the oldest political party in Magentina, founded almost two centuries ago, although it hadn't been in power since 1506. The Conservatives obtained their best result in decades in 1582, with 68 seats, becoming the third largest party in the parliament and entering Lafuente's government with four ministers.

Emiliano Martino, current Minister of Defense, remains the Conservative Party's leader since 1573. While the party has shifted to the center on economic policy, moving from a protectionist policy to a more fiscal conservative one, the Conservatives are often focused on cultural and moral issues, aligning with the most conservative currents in the Sentric Church, and opposed to immigration from non-Messanic countries.

The Conservatives hope to displace Lafuente's Liberal Party as the largest party of the coalition

National Movement for Magentina (Movimiento Nacional de Magentina, MSM)

The National Movement for Magentina (previously known as Nationalist Democratic Party of Magetina from 1556 and 1563) is a right-wing political party. On social and moral issues, it has moderate positions. On economic policy, it has rather protectionist policies, defending that "Magentina interests should come first than foreign ones". As a result, it has populist economic program, not opposed to a market economy, but aimed to defend the national economy. It is opposed to free trade and it has clearly anti-immigration positions.

Their leader is Augusto Maldonado, a 55-year old lawyer and a distant relative of both Ramiro Maldonado (Chief Minister from 1454 to 1463, and first President of Magetina after independence in 1463) and his nephew Luciano Maldonado (President of Magentina from 1480 to 1486), which made him a quite distinctive but controversial candidate. While Ramiro Maldonado is often considered "a Hero for Independence" and the "Father of Magentina", his nephew Luciano has been regarded historically as an autocratic ruler which would lead the country to its first and last civil war in 1486. Augusto Maldonado, however, has often claimed that he has been personally "inspired by both historical statesmen", but arguing that his political movement doesn't pretend to imitate the past.

It is often denounced as a far-right political party, and considered a marginal political party before 1578. On foreign policy, Augusto Maldonado has promised to end Magentina's neutrality and increasing spending in Defense as long as possible, while keeping "friendly relations" with Magentina's neighbor countries. Maldonado has also called to end the "open border policy" for refugees and political dissidents of other countries.

In 1578, the MSM entered in the National Assembly for first time. The party obtained 32 seats, and it has pushed Emiliano Lafuente's government toward more right-leaning positions, such as a more restrictive immigration law, a limited reform in the refugee legislation, and introducing subsidies for agriculture workers. It had, however, a disappointing result in 1582, losing four seats, but it has remained influential as the main support to Lafuente's coalition.

Alternative for Magentina (Alternative para Magentina)

Alternative for Magentina is a center-right political party, created only three months ago by former members of Action for the Republic, who were opposed to continue in the coalition government after different officials were accused of being involved in corruption and tax avoidance by recent leaks to the media.

Alternative for Magentina proposes a pragmatist platform, focused on anti-corruption reforms, and with a rather centrist orientation on social issues. The leader of the party is Laurentina Quejada, who was elected in 1582 as a candidate of the Liberal Action for the Republic coalition.

Alvan 21, 1584

“I will not stand idly by while a foreign state meddles in our internal affairs,” the new chancellor declares before a huge crowd. “In our new administration, we will not allow foreign money, arms, and propaganda to support terrorism within our own borders. Look at Carruth! Look at St. Guthbert! Look at Hwearftun! These radical separatists, these despicable terrorists murder innocent men, women, and children to serve their disgusting agenda.

“These are the kinds of people that Brymme supports! For this, we must draw a line in the sand.” Dunstan looks straight into the camera. “Republic of Brymme! You must cease and desist your illegal, inhumane aiding and abetting of separatist elements in the Kingdom of Arrenland. Failure will result in severe consequences. No more!” He swiped the air with his arm and the crowd broke out in a deafening applause.

Quartyr 12

St. Guthbert was the capital and largest city on the island of Carruth, the largest overseas domain of the Kingdom of Arrenland. A vestigial remain from Arrenland’s colonial empire, Carruth was the first island south of the Brymmish Principality to be settled by Arrenland. Over time it became a prosperous, valuable asset. Sugarcane, indigo, coffee, and rice were grown in abundance on the large plantations throughout the island. Carruth made many a landowner extremely wealthy. Their wealth was built upon the backs of hundreds of thousands of indentured servants and Ostaran slaves. It was heavily invested in, with hundreds of millions of modern shillings-worth of infrastructure, settlement building, and fortification.

Today it remains in Arrenlander hands, and still retains millions of Ostarans - descendants of slaves - and the descendants of Arrene and Brymmish indentured servants and settlers. One of those Ostaran descendants walks into the second-busiest mall in St. Guthbert. He wears a long, dull-colored coat. Concealed within was a short submachine gun with several loaded magazines. The police would later identify it as a Tieguan knockoff of an old Socialist Union model. It could be traced back to gun runners in the mountains of Nabatho, but no further. Also hidden in his pockets were three old Kolhari grenades.

Seeing that he was being eyed suspiciously by a pair of mall security guards, the man decided it was time. He threw aside the coat and leveled his weapon at the two guards. He released a long burst, hitting both of them several times in a diagonal pattern. Immediately, panic struck. People were running and shouting, all the while the terrorist opened fire indiscriminately. At one point he noticed several people hiding inside a store, so he tossed one of his grenades in. The whole thing went on for only a short while before mall security and local police ended the massacre in a hail of bullets going the opposite direction, but it wasn’t short enough. Initial reports showed over twenty dead and at least forty wounded. Witnesses reported that the terrorist was shouting “Free Carruth!” and other popular separatist slogans.

Within a week, it was revealed that the man had been placed under surveillance by the intelligence and counterterrorism services due to his communications with known members of a radical separatist group, the Ostaran Liberation Party. Inexplicably, however, the government had lost track of him. He had disappeared, only to reappear weeks later at the mall in St. Guthbert. Several arrests followed, mostly separatists, especially Ostaran racial nationalists.

By the end of the second week, the Carruth Constabulary and the Royal Counterterrorism Task Force announced that they would be holding a joint press conference, one which the chancellor himself would be attending.

When did you last have an Expansion? March 2017
When was the Expanding Country's last military conflict? Arrenland hasn't had any major conflicts in recent history.
Why do you seek to expand? IC: Arrenland and Brymme have been going at it for a long time now. Brymme was formerly under Arrenlander control until about 70 years ago. The new government of Arrenland is notably aggressive with a firebrand chancellor who wants to turn Arrenland into a world power. Conquering an old rival and solidifying control over the eastern Kvaennan waters would fit nicely into that goal.

OOCly: I've wanted those islands for a good while now. Also my hopes for mainland conquest have been all but crushed by certain uncooperative parties.

Campaign Plot
The Brymmish people are the descendants of a mixture of Arrenes and Taeunasians, and today Brymme is an independent republic. Brymme was once an Arrenlander vassal state, with its own ruling prince who swore fealty to the king, even after traditional feudal vassal-liege relationships had been abandoned in Arrenland. This was a special concession to the Brymmish, allowing them to maintain a degree of autonomy.

Starting around 1506, at the same time as republican insurrections plague Adwest and fifty years after the republican revolt in the southern United Provinces led to the establishment of an independent Taeunasian Republic, there is a surge in republicanism and anti-Arrenland sentiment in Brymme. Many see the Prince of Brymme and the aristocracy as Arrenlander puppets. In 1510, a republican protest in the city of Brocctun turned into a riot, which turned into a revolt. The revolt spread rapidly throughout the island, and many nobles, alleged “collaborators,” and ethnic Arrenes were murdered. Without going into too much detail, Brymme eventually threw off Arrenlander sovereignty and became an independent republic.

There has been some tension between the two states in recent years. Most recently, Brymme has been accused of supporting separatist groups in Arrenland’s remaining overseas territories, particularly the island of Carruth, and there have been some near-miss incidents between naval patrol vessels of both countries.

After the firebrand new chancellor takes office, he takes a hard stance against Brymme. He demands that the Brymmish government immediately end all support for separatist groups in Arrenlander territory. The Popular Party-controlled parliament passes a bill banning any organization operating in Arrenland from taking funds from Brymmish government or private sources. When a separatist group with alleged ties to Brymme commits a terrorist attack in Carruth, the chancellor orders the seizure of all Brymmish financial assets in Arrenland. In addition, he orders more aggressive patrols of territorial waters, leading to a violent incident between two naval vessels. The exact details of the incident are not clear, but both sides blame the other.

Eventually, one thing leads to another and a shootin’ war breaks out.

The Arrenlander government will attempt to justify the annexation of Brymme as a return to the old order before the bloody and illegal republican uprising. The family of the last reigning prince of Brymme still lives in Arrenland, and they will probably be put on the throne.

Potential for Other Player Involvement
A war between two nations? Plenty of opportunity for the usual involvement there. The Taeunasians might decide that they have a special interest in intervening, considering their proximity to the islands in question.

How your country may evolve from success
After decades of idleness, Arrenland may come out of this conflict with a feeling of pride at their accomplishment, and a wave of support for Dunstan's ideas of turning Arrenland into a world power, thus leading to more international involvement (of the aggressive kind) in the future.

How your country may evolve from defeat
The people's opinion of Dunstan might drop significantly if he returns home in defeat, so to speak. He campaigned on aggressive, glory-seeking, power-building rhetoric, and he can't even manage the old rival Brymme? Arrenland's future imperialist prospects might not look so good.

Flo has expressed a willingness to RP Brymme, while I believe Ikar may have expressed some interest in getting Cynas involved. Note that the actual conflict will take place after the defense pact with Adwest was signed, so keep that in mind. If there are any questions whatsoever, feel free to ask them.
