This is the story of Anders Kohout, the events before and during his presidency, and the people surrounding him and those events.
This post is also a placeholder until I finish the first post. This thread will have a table of contents. I simply must put this here now, lest I forget this idea.
*edit* Also, make sure to read the title in the most condescending and venomous tone possible for full tonal effect.

"Men of Miljoen, the time has finally come to prove your superiority, not shrink or shrink your birthright! Our nation will no longer suffer the aggressions of the Vestors, nor will we suffer our trade and good name by their economic warfare Soon we will cross the border of injustice and destroy everything in our path, conquer the Vestor-cities before us and take their riches that they have stolen from us. "They are rightfully ours! We will push their capital and their leaders and put them right for their crimes, and if they are found guilty, I'll kill them for you, my loyal men, I'll do this, go do the same for me, fight and win for our proud country! "
With these words, the supreme executive power of the Miljoen Republic, Martin van Derksen, had announced his new foreign policy after he came to power. Now these same words gathered the men of the Miljoen Armored Corps and sent them into action. R-115 "Spartan" armored people carriers, R-87 "Lancer" anti-aircraft tanks, R-90 "Gryphon" multi-mission tank destroyers and hordes of staples R-70C "Shield" line battle tanks swarmed across the border and into history.
Commander First Armored Corps ordered its units to strike the Vestors border guards directly against their Miljoen counterparts. They fired grenades and rockets to quickly switch off the border posts before news of the great invasion reached the capital of Vestor. Once they had advanced into the interior, the infantry would disembark and capture border towns.

OOC War on Skathia |

Hello everybody, I would like to be interested in a war on my current continent that I believe is Skathia. This war I would like to be between the Republic of Miljoen and someone on its border like Tambossa or Vestor. The reason for this war would be to reinforce another "strong executive power" that would seize power, some of which say it is a dictator, suspending elections and blaming neighbors for economic problems. Miljoen would invade the neighbor in a lightning strike trying to force a peace on favorable terms. The war does not have to overcome anyone, but an opportunity for a good desert war, and also to emphasize how distant is the leader from reality and whoever tries to kill him and end the war among officers in the army. From the result of that war, I would like Miljoen to undergo many reforms to make his legal system less susceptible to strong leaders / dictators and to have a leader who modernizes and transforms his economy, while also offering peacekeepers for international affairs. if there is an equivalent of the United Nations here. Let me know if anyone is interested in this.

GAMBIT Conflict Resolution System |

The GAMBIT Conflict Resolution System is a lightweight addition to diplomatic communiques to allow for fair resolution of a military, diplomatic, or political event between two diplomats. Here is how it works:
One diplomat begins a thread as usual and in their first post specifies the scale of the conflict in Force Units (FU). Diplomats should agree on the scale (amount of FUs) and scope (what is fair game) of the action beforehand. Diplomats post normally as before, but at the end of the post a diplomat can choose to make their post a GAMBIT, wagering an FU on the actions in the post. If a post is a GAMBIT, the diplomat appends 1d6 rolled for a total of: 3 (3) to the post and submits.
The other diplomat must then devote their next post to the counteraction, appending the post with 1d6 rolled for a total of: 1 (1) and submitting. The diplomat with the higher roll wins the GAMBIT, their opponent loses an FU, and the thread proceeds on from the events of the GAMBIT. In event of a tie, the diplomat with the higher word count communique wins the GAMBIT.
A GAMBIT thread ends when either one side runs out of FU or one player withdraws. This has whatever consequences are relevant to the thread (an army routs, negotiations are concluded with unfavorable terms for one party, an election goes poorly for one side).
EXAMPLE 1, MILITARY:
1. Esteemed Diplomat RED begins a thread with 3 FU, a military action by the robber-baron state of RED against the robber-baron state of BLUE. RED's post details the deployment of a tank battalion over the border. RED wagers an FU and rolls 3.
2. Esteemed Diplomat BLUE writes the counteraction, a scrambling of anti-tank helicopters from a local airbase. BLUE rolls 5 at the end of their post.
3. RED sees that their gambit has failed and notes they have lost an FU with 2 FU remaining. They write about the tank losses and start another gambit in the same thread, detailing mechanized anti-air units in the tank battalion targeting and firing on the helicopters. RED wagers an FU and rolls 6.
4. BLUE writes the counteraction, a post about friendly armor and air units moving up to crush the interlopers, and also rolls a 6! This tie is resolved by comparing post word count: BLUE's post is significantly longer than RED, and RED is punished for their hasty post by losing yet another FU.
5. RED notes they have only 1 FU remaining, and rather than lose embarassingly choose to abandon the assault. Their next post details the losses from the last gambit and the withdrawal of forces from BLUE territrory which consitutes a withdrawal from the thread. BLUE is victorious and immediately transitions to Pure Total Meritocracy to escape the evils of robber-barony.
EXAMPLE 2, DIPLOMATIC:
1. Esteemed Diplomat RED begins a thread with 3 FU, negotiations to determine the terms of a trade and customs union between the robber-baron state of RED and the robber-baron state of GREEN. RED's post details the opening of the summit and beginning negotiation on the first item, free movement of people within the union, where RED pushes their attempt to restrict all unvetted movement into their borders. RED wagers an FU and rolls 5.
2. Esteemed Diplomat GREEN writes the counteraction, making the case for free movement and calling in favors behind the scenes. GREEN rolls 3 at the end of their post.
3. RED sees that their GAMBIT to keep a free movement clause out of the union has succeeded and acknowledges this in their next post, writing the remainder as another GAMBIT about the next item, the amount of foreign fishing allowed in national waters. Hoping to completely abolish the practice, RED wagers an FU and rolls a 2.
4. GREEN writes the counteraction, proposing that union members have the ability to purchase natural resource rights just like native businesses. GREEN rolls 4 at the end of their post.
5. Seeing that they won the GAMBIT, and wanting above all else to secure the free movement of peoples across the union, GREEN seizes the initiative before RED responds with another GAMBIT reopening the subject and wagers an FU, rolling a 5.
6. RED writes the counteraction, rolling a 3. RED now has 1 FU and GREEN has 2 FU. Going all or nothing, RED reopens the subject a third time, rolling a 4.
7. GREEN writes the counteraction, rolling a 3. Each side now has 1 FU. GREEN pushes the subject one final time, rolling a 1.
8. RED writes the counteraction, giving it a longer post than GREEN's to ensure he wins even in the event of a tie. RED rolls a 3 and the conference is ended. At this point, the trade union negotiators have only setted two matters under great contention. From here, the diplomats may wish to conduct a second summit, focus closed-room talks on contentious issues, or pull out of the union talks altogether.

"You have the upper hand; it is a good thing we are underhanded."
The Tapatalkalypse! Or, much ado about archives.
Word of outside events comes slowly to the Eternity hermitage, and so news of the Zetaboards transition to Tapatalk software surprised the Great Gurus in the Discord halls apparently a full month after the rest of the world had already decided upon courses of action! The news, though, was met with various forms of “...meh?” as Eternity’s current and allegedly Final Form is privately hosted.
Still, the community has a long and storied history of evolution, first starting as Caprecia in the way-back-when of 2007 before re-branding in 2013 as Oracia following a lovely merger with Nysa; irreconcilable differences between admins forced a split a year later as some left for parts unknown, while most re-founded the community as Eternity with a fresh administration, fresh set of ideals, and (most importantly!) a fresh roleplaying scene. The community evolved once again in 2016 as a forum facelift was necessary, leaving Zetaboards behind forever.
However, just as the future is eternal, so is the past, and community members constantly visit, reference, and draw inspiration from the archived communities of old. That is why the Eternity Administration has committed to keep the old archives active and open through the Tapatalk conversion and for at least an undetermined yet socially acceptable amount of time afterwards, by whatever means are available to them, to avoid potential removal for inactivity. Aren’t we grand?
Eternity seeks closer relations with the Angirisian Empire!
With uncertain futures caused in some places by the Zetaboards upheaval, two communities with a shared history once again draw closer as their two leaders consider their futures.
The Angirisian Empire’s founder and “Emperor,” Anakinexi, has been a long-serving member of Eternity since its Oracia days and a very lovely person to have around. His project lately has been the creation and running of his own NationStates region over the last year, which he had intended to have very close relations with the great Eternity community. Unfortunately, miscues and miscommunication with the Perfect and Infallible Lord of All Time and Space, Lines - Glory be unto Him - put a damper on that relationship quickly, and the two drifted apart. An unfortunate day for all!
Thankfully, after an airing of grievances, the two came to an understanding in a recent meeting. While no actual agreement was set, amicable relations between the two leaders was restored. Let’s hope this is the beginning of something renewed.
All the best, Angiris!
Other News- Forum software update definitely does not break anything, and staff are certainly not looking for new forum themes.
- Errors on the part of the Linear One found not to be errors on the part of the Linear One by decree of the Linear One. Public faith in the Absolute Perfection of the Linear One is restored.
- Community Etiquette updated to cover recent forum changes.
- New forum toys! New script “/dice” allows for random number generation and dice rolls within posts. Wow!
- Modern Tech Roleplay gets an events scripts, to chronologically order and log significant RP world events. Many should make more use of it. Yes.
- Ikarius adds new changes to Discord: new channels, and a scrolling Pip feed tied to twitter. Handy!
Alternate Earth role play introduced!
What if Oliver Cromwell was successful, and England became a commonwealth dictatorship? What if Maria Theresa lost the Austrian Succession wars? What if the Manchu failed to invade Beijing and supplant the Ming dynasty? What if the Australian Aboriginals were actually proper and civil dandies?
All these questions and more that no one ever wanted asked can be answered in the world of Alternate Earth role play! Following a community poll some months ago, the people of Eternity decided that they really wanted a new kind of role playing activity on the forums, to catch an itch heretofore unscratched. Already the community has responded with gusto with many actors large, small, and even fictional claimed and events already being enacted by our devout players.

The Chronicles of Eriuna
This historical story details the life of Lyrn the Second, Prince - and then King - of Lanlania and his hand in the kingdom’s eventual rise to empirehood, becoming the dominant force of Southern Brigidna. The story starts with his campaign to subjugate Azreae, but how will he keep this multi-ethnic realm together?
Quote:Prince Lyrn was only twenty-three when he first stepped foot in Zanaro. He was still quite baby-faced, albeit tall by the day's standards and certainly built to wear his unblemished bronze cuirass and swing a sword properly. A descendant of the Feryn the Glorious, Lyrn still had Florinthian features, as opposed to the largely ethnic Geinic and Syorid he commanded. His thick black hair, kept short and swept back from face, shined a dark mahogany under the sun, while his green eyes had the softness only one who grew up in the comfort of royal society could have. That would change soon.
On his mother's, Archking Hilfrid, order, he lead the 17th, 18th, and 19th Hosts and their auxiliaries across the Bastion river and into the Zanarite Kingdom of Phortain. His mother had told him much of the Phortainese: they were a vile pagan people, who persecuted and massacred Rune-fearing Messanites. They'd killed his grandfather, Lyrn I, and were obstructing Lanlania's Just Labor: the liberation of Azreae, as decided by Rune and decreed by his great-great-grandfather, Feryn the Glorious. He'd heard of how, after defeating his grandfather, they'd degraded his body and threw it in a ditch with the other Lanlanians they'd massacred. They were truly a barbarian people, and it was his duty, by Rune's Will, to punish them.
"Prince."
Lyrn finishing tying his boots and glanced towards the entrance to his tent. "Ordinskarl?"
"Aye, Prince."
Lyrn's second-in-command was a Syorid man, perhaps three-tens in age, with black, curly hair reaching his neck matted under his bronze officer's helmet. He carried a short sword at his waist, much like Lyrn did as he pushed aside the leather flap and stepped outside. "Scouts report the Phortainese army has exited Orenhold and is marching to meet us. They are reported four leagues away."
"How soon can we march?" Lyrn asked. He walked past his deputy, Doren, and accepted the bowl of breakfast handed to him by an aid near the campfire. The area ahead of him was a sprawling grid of tents, surrounded by hastily erected log walls. It had an unpleasant male smell, though it was somewhat drowned out by the stew the cooks had made. At least until the two smells mixed and it again became disagreeable.

[font=Georgia]The Ashkuban’s Fury
The Mandates once again act on the world stage following the row over Caladria. This time, the target is Pythos; what’s the game? Who’s behind this latest action? Only time can tell, but as always, the world is watching.
Quote:Vasily Utryev, CT7, despised each and every foreigner in the internment camp. He watched them shuffle into the camp cafeteria with unbridled derision. Each and every week, foreign tourists were caught with drugs or weapons or religious paraphernalia. Each of them came with an agenda and didn't particularly care what the Vestians had to say about it. Everyone wanted to overthrow the Mandate or profit from its destruction, and each of them had the same insufferable audacity to claim they did it all for the poor, miserable, backwards Vestians too foolish to realize the wonders of capitalism or majesty of socialism.
Horseshit. Vasily liked the Mandate just fine, and so did most of his comrades. He was good at his job but didn't like extra hours, so he sat comfortably at CT7. The Mandate neither screwed him out of fair compensation nor ceaselessly pushed him to uptier to the level of his incompetence. Better than dying in an office chair working 80-hour weeks for the reward of doing more work.
That reminded him that it was indeed time to put some warm bodies to work. He needed no VOX system - his voice carried to the four corners of the earth on a clear, warm day like today. He drummed on the cheap folding cafeteria table that served as his recruiting office and cleared his throat.
"Foreign prisoners," he said, forcefully addressing the weary lunch crowd, "you have been told repeatedly that your only parole is MT13 service. You can pick Fuel Duty or Genetic Test Subject if you want, but you'll die. Join the penal brigades, Redeem yourselves in fire, and you may yet live and be repatriated to your old countries. There is a new unit forming up today for immediate deployment, Ashkubans only. See me if you want to get out of the Mandate."
Tytus, now in his third month at the camp, knew better than to ask too many questions. He sprinted to the table where Vasily sat with reams of paperwork.

2017 Siora Awards results announced!
Following a long delay in tallying the results, the final results for the annual Siora Awards have been released! For those not in the know, the Siora Awards are a celebration of our community and the contributions, silly and otherwise, made to it by its many valuable members. A short burst of reminiscing starting in October - the Eternity community’s official “birthday,” if you will - culminates in a popular vote on a host of categories that are 62% silly and 100% meaningless!
This year marks the third year running for the Siora Awards, and we hope to have many more reasons to continue celebrating in the years to come. With the event now behind us and next October fast approaching, let’s take some time to enjoy the silly results of nearly arbitrary polling!
You can see all the results here!
The Duma Monarchy
Nentsia’s back at it again with the semi-academic essays! This time he explores the fate of Tsar Nicholas’ Russia and the troubles of the Duma government as it leads up to the messy events of the first World War. I’ll let him explain himself in his own words:
Quote:I promised Flobro to do an article-thingy on Russian history, and perhaps an interesting one would be about the so-called Duma Monarchy or the Duma era, the period between 1905 and the 1917 Russian February Revolution during which the Russian Tsar accepted some form of constitutional limits to his ''autocratic'' powers and enabled the creation of an elected legislative body, the Duma.
It is an interesting period to look at because 2017 is the centenary year of the Russian February Revolution and the October Revolution (the one where Bolsheviks came to power and established a Communist dictatorship). But instead of focussing on the events of 1917, which are very chaotic, confusing, and messy, the Duma period that preceded it is what I find personally more interesting. Because here the Russian Tsars were experimenting with democratic reforms and parliamentary politics, in a desperate attempt restore public confidence in the monarchy. One question that always accompanies this final episode of the Russian Empire is whether the creation of a Russian constitution and parliament would’ve been the beginning of a modern, constitutional Russia - capable of averting violent revolution and bloody civil wars. The argument of many historians often goes that, had the World War not ruined the fun, the Duma Monarchy would've never collapsed. Other historians instead point to the fatal flaws in the design of the Duma system, its subsequent failure to alleviate political and social tensions within Russian society, and therefore in fact seeing it as the cause for further deepening the political rifts that would later enable Russians to murder fellow Russians. Lets be clear that historians agree that the Duma Monarchy functioned poorly. It was a political mess. The disagreements arise about whose fault that was, and whether the system had any future at all. Of course it also touches upon the never-ending historical debate about the ~main cause~ of the Russian Revolution and the fall of the Romanovs.

Tytus Dabrowski mentally spun back the film reel of his life, searching for the one moment that defined his life's trajectory. He longed today, as he did most days, to find the moment that ultimately led him to get off a plane in a foreign country as a professional agent provocateur for another foreign country against his will. As he thought, he shuffled down the boarding tunnel with the other plainclothes Ashkubans that had been unlucky or dumb enough to get caught doing what he did over the years.
Rummaging in his mind produced a few milestones: dropping out of school while trying to hold down odd jobs and stay clean, falling back into the waiting arms of friends who hadn't, getting trashed on cheap liquor and hearing exactly how much his friends made dealing, a brief period of fantastic wealth, getting forcefully inducted into the cartel, and being told the only career advancement other than death was to start up new markets for them in Skathia. Each held its own little memorable place on the slippery slope, but none of them carried the same emotional punch to the gut as his third week in Vestor when he was told he wouldn't be leaving. It seemed like he wasn't the first to pull the old innocent tourist card as a cover for his activities. By the size of the facility he was taken to, that ship had sailed some thousands of 'tourists' ago.

Pythian Embassy, Cynesse
1099th Penal Brigadiers on scene
The protests had been intensifying throughout the day - now they were nearly riots. Tytus and three hundred of his closest friends loosely surrounded the Pythian embassy in plain clothes, shouting prearranged anti-Pythian slogans, waving pre-prepared anti-Pythian banners, and hurling locally-sourced rocks and empty bottles toward the embassy grounds. Most shattered on the grounds just inside the gates or atop the roofs of the guard shacks where Pythian military personnel scanned the crowd warily. It appeared for all the world that a group of Ashkubans had some very specific greivances against Pythia and wished to do some very specific things to them in retaliation.
Earlier today, the local police attempted to corral the protestors off the street to the adjacent block. It was a foolish mistake. The Vestian handlers let those who broke bones or worse return to the airport to be released from penal service. More than a few men were desperate enough to take the out, and the savage scuffles saw wounded on both sides and the media attention around bloodied Ashkubans with their legs bending the wrong way was immediate and strong. Unwilling to take more casualties and a media circus without direct orders, the police held cordons on the cross streets and a thin line around the embassy - far enough to prevent projectiles from hitting the embassy buildings, but just barely.
"Hieronym, Tobiasz, form your men on me," said MT6 Yuri Markov, also un-uniformed. "Dominik, hold in reserve. We don't know what awaits us after we kick the hornet's nest."
This was MT6 Markov's first deployment as penal brigadier handler, and while foreign brigader jobs were typically more straightforward he still felt a nervous chill worm its way down his spine. Theory in the classroom was straightforward and simple, but real life had many variables that could easily slip and twist out of one's fingers. He straightened up and prepared to escalate the situation.
"Alright," he said to one of the handlers, "do it. Northwest grounds."
The handler nodded and pulled a fragmentation grenade out of his satchel, concealed from police by the press of humanity on all sides. He pulled the pin and threw expertly, arcing the frag naturally over the compound walls and into the corner of the embassy grounds away from the buildings and guard huts. It detonated with a furious flast and burst, sounding like a particularly loud gunshot. A small pillar of smoke rose from charred rose bushes, and chunks of dirt and rock showered the embattled guard huts as the Pythian soldiers inside clamored to cover.
Tytus turned his head to the explosion and gaped. This would not be as easy or safe as they had promised him.
