The commonwealth war I
#21
Drassari

The forces laying in the ditches and foxholes out of sight for the forces stationed at the airport. So far they had been unaware that the soyabarians were so close to attacking. The soyabarians fixed their bayonets. They knew they battleplans, namely charge into the enemy and kill everyone with a non commonwealth uniform on. Spare potential civilians but gut all the rest.

Spotters had confirmed enemy movement in and around the airbase. Upon which the commanding officer ordered a little change to the battle plan. He would let the order of charge be delayed after the dozen artilerry pieces had fired 15 rounds after which an airstrike would occur then the order of charge would be given.

Moments later the cannons roared with deadly fire upon the base, the airforce blew over and the general could hear the soldier's chant

Urrah Urrah urrah URRRAH it grew louder and louder URRAH URRAH URRAAH URRRAAAAAAAAAAAAH! until that final Urrah was given 5500 soldiers with bajonets fixed charged in the airfield, shooting, stabbing, slashing everyone in sight that was still alive after the bombardments.

((OOC: I'm assuming Drassari is near New Heers or whatever.))

The Ishnalli Hanj Army continued its relentless push forward, itself propelled by the Imperial Army troops that were advancing behind them. The Hanj army, composed of ethnic Hanj slaves, was the Ishnalli Empire's most professional force and also the most loyal to the Empress. Having spent centuries in Ishnalli servitude, the Hanj people thought nothing of their unequal statue and the Hanj Army was instead grateful for the opportunity to so personally serve and die for the Empress. Indeed, the force was composed of men heavily indoctrinated from an early age, who knew nothing of the concept of freedom and were raised to consider foreigners as dogs and animals.

The were a fiercely determined force, trained by western officers in western tactics using western weapons. The Hanj Army also had an Air Force, which had the bulk of Ishnalla's modern aircraft.

Drassari
And it was the Hanj Army Air Force that struck at the Soyabarian force around Drassari Air Base. While Ishnalli interceptors met the Soyabarian aircraft in the skies, Ishnalli multi-role fighters rained guided munitions on the Soyabarian position, targeting specifically the Soyabarian artillery which volleyed the defenders. When the Soyabarian infantry charged at the airbase, Ishnalli troops from the east of the base made their own move. Advancing down the routes from the east, Ishnalli armed vehicles advanced around the Soyabarians, as its infantry reinforced the air base to meet the Soyabarians.

The Soyabarians would soon find themselves drowning in Ishnalli troops.

East of Zeeburgee
The Hanj Army lead the advance along the coast too, though they'd spent the recent while jockeying with Soyabarian troops, attempting to push the Soyabarians into the sea. With Imperial Army reinforcements behind them, the Hanj Army doubled its enforces to push the Soyabarians back off the continent. Its around-the-clock bombardment of Soyabarian positions continued relentlessly before Hanj assaults on the Soyabarian lines intensified.

South of the battle around Soyabarian landings points, an Ishnalli wave advanced towards Zeeburgee, intent on reinforcing the freedom fighters in the city.

Zeeburgee was an important stepping stone to securing the coast, which was necessary to deny Soyabar war-waging capacity further inland.

Eastern New Zealmark Plains
The Ishnalli advance along the Eastern New Zealmark plains had been ordered with Svarna Surya in mind. As the Svarna Suryans would be unlikely to want an all out war with the Ishnalli Empire, it was here that their troops would meet. As a result, the bulk of Ishnalli troops had been deployed here. As the area was largely in freedom-fighter hands, the Ishnalli forces advanced smoothly with little resistance, securing the roads and population centers, and also beginning to fortify the border, fully expecting a Svarna Suryan intervention.

Ishnallan Sea
The Ishnalli Empire finally made its move against the Soyabarian colonizers occupying its sea. Ishnalli naval fighters took off from its air bases along its coast and Paschlam Island, intent on striking the Soyabarian ships. Ishnalli submarines were also released from their bases, with orders of intercepting Soyabarian ships and supplies bound for New Zealmark.

The charge went well in terms until the ishnallan intervention. The bombardment was harrassed so there where more defenders left in the airport. So the attackers where also harrassed by their airforce while the commonwealth airforce did their best to shoot ishnallan airforce out of the sky.
to the east Ishnallan forces charged in and the infantery had to get a solid fireline going. Once they were close enough schock chargings where grenades where throwed and soyabarian soldiers charged in with their bajonets using their guns as clubs, spears, polearms and guns.

Meanwhile, helicopters came underway to throw in supplies and fresh troops. they flew close to the trees in order to try to evade the notice of ishanallan planes. Ofcourse this route was protected by the airforce. Trough the river some smaller boats fit with mortars and artilerry pieces and heavy machineguns also made their way closer to drassari so the ishanallan supply routes would be harrased.

Ishnallan sea

Ofcourse the destroyers, and the navy airforces hunted the submarines of ishnalla and were patrolling the entire sea. The battle ships started bombing the region behind zeebrugge so the ishallans would be harrassed by entiring the city. Ofcourse the submarines after they restocked in soyabar they fired cruise missiles to bomb every ishnallan troop in new zealmark.

The High King was in a predicament. Arkiania business interests in New Zealmark had pretty much been destroyed at the onset of the war, but he was hesitant to act due to the major powers interest in conflict. With Ishnalla's entry into the war however, he saw an opportunity to protect those interests. Arkianian ships began heading off from their ports to positions south of Atlathum and the West of Antigus. Any Soyabarian ships who were making there way through would be intercepted.

As the Soyabarian infantry moved closer to the Ishnalli and rebel positions around the base, Ishnalli artillery safe behind Ishnalli opened fire--letting loose a rain of explosives and shrapnel on the Soyabarian troops and turning the ground into a field of craters. The battered and broken terrain slowly down the Soyabarian advance and put them at the mercy of the defenders. The Ishnalli infantry had reinforced the rebel fortifications, taking position in trenches, behind sandbag walls, and buildings that survived the Soyabarian artillery barrage.

The Soyabarians were nonetheless a stubborn sort, who pressed on despite heavy losses. Yet, under constant fire from both artillery and machine gun, not many of the attackers survived to penetrate the defense line. The Ishnalli were strangers to close-quarter combat, however, and fought back without hesitation.

To make matters worse for the Soyabarians, the Ishnalli armor that advanced around the air base were equipped with anti-aircraft weapons and opened fire on the Soyabarian helicopters with homing rockets and machine gun fire, while other units attacked the Soyabarian troops as they disembarked. Upon reaching the trees, Ishnalli troops disembarked from their personnel carriers and fanned out, aiming to secure the area with the support of their armored vehicles.

In the sky, the Ishnalli air forces continued to press on. While Ishnalla's state-of-the-art fighters fought their Soyabarian counterparts for air superiority, multiple strike forces were launched from Ishnalla to bombard and disable the airfields the Soyabarian were launching from.

Ishnallan Sea
Once the Soyabarian battleships were located, the dozens of Ishnalli naval fighters that's been sent to sink them opened fire, unleashing volleys of cruise missiles and air-launched torpedoes on the battleships and their escorts. Soyabaria forces elsewhere in the Ishnallan Sea found themselves under similar attacks. To reinforce their efforts, Ishnalli positions on Paschlam Island fired anti-ship missiles at any Soyabarian vessel that they identified.

While the battle would undoubtedly drag on, Soyabar simply did not have the resources to successfully challenge Ishnalla in the waters off its coast, especially if the Arkianians joined the fray against them.

Zeebrugge
The Soyabarian naval bombardment was effective at slowing the Ishnalli advance, but it was far from enough to stop it. When the Soyabarians managed to destroy the roads outside the city, the Ishnalli simply drove over the plains. As time went on, and more and more Ishnalli troops entered New Zealmark, the noose around the Soyabarians tightened.

Central New Zealmark
Over rebel-controlled areas, the Ishnalli armed forces advanced fairly smoothly and managed to easily penetrate deep into the center of the control, under the curtain of Ishnalli air power. While elements of the Ishnalli military established a makeshift base sixty kilometers northeast of New Heers, a much larger force advanced down the routes to the city, while even more detachments made their way to the northwest and others to the south, towards New Handswepenstad. It was only a matter of time before Ishnalli troops cut off the Soyabarian supply lines.

Drassari area

As the gun boats moved into positions with their artillery machine guns and the sort they opened fire on both banks of the river. Both on the supplyline of the Ishnallans as their artillery positions that bombarded soyabarian troops near drassari.
With the Ishnallans advance going quicker as expected indeed not many of the buildings were destroyed by the Soyabarian artilery but atleast the airforce did a more than decent job as to keep air superiorty above drassari.

An improvised ploy had to be implemented in when the Ishanallan barrage started. Commanders knew ofcourse of the gunboats and expected the barrage to take down in intensity and ordered the majority of the troops to "play dead" in the craters the ishnallans created for them. The losses were many but manageable on paper and the IIL was mostly intact with only about 100 to 300 losses, while the army consisting of originally 4000 men now only about 3350 men remained. The soyabarians were good at fooling their enemies it seemed.

As the armor appeared and intelligence of the entrenchment appeared it was clear that out of new heers more artilerry pieces had to be brought so it was signalled while the airforce launched planes with anti armor missiles . which they delivered with divebombings and incredible precision. And as the threat lessened of strikes from above, the airforce bombed the anti aricraft capabilities of the enemies so the heli's were safer to come in with supplies.
Ofcourse the airforce striketh heavy machineguns and the enemies which also took out a portion of the men. when it was silent a second URRAH charge was started using the craters as cover and shooting when advancing and when arriving at the enemy trenches go in both firing and melee mode as beserker. The etnically soyabarian IIL where larger and more muscular than the avarage Ishanallan soldier or New zealmarkian Rebel and used this to their advantage.

Ishnallan Sea

The airforce had trouble sustaining itself just as the navy but kept up the fight like hell was on earth. Planes were launched from one of the Ishnallan islands so submarines launches guided missiles to that island to bomb it back into the sea. This is why the Soyabar stocked up arms after the svarna- soyabar conflict. To better defend itself against a larger enemy or enemies now that Arkania joined, it wasn't time yet to bomb the arkanian mainland or one of its Islands. but shooting its airplanes out of the sky was no problem

((OOC: Your ships have been swarmed with Ishnalli air- and ground-launched anti-ship missiles and torpedoes. Literally swarmed, to overwhelm their point-defense systems. Should I assume that they were all destroyed or what?))

Drassari air base
The Ishnalli were ruthless. Taking full advantage of their defensive position and greater resources, they maintained a killing field in the direction the Soyabarian were advancing. While the craters did initially serve to offer some cover, they became graves as Ishnalli infantry specifically targeted them with anti-personnel mortar. When the Soyabarians left the craters to advance, they did so against heavy machine-gun fire.

While the dust and smoke thrown up by the mass bombardment did offer some cover, it dissipated closer to the first line. It was in that final stretch that the defenders massacred the Soyabarians in a crossfire of machine gun fire from the first and second lines of defense. And once the melee broke out, the Soyabarians' physical advantage meant little to the shotguns, combat knives, and shovels of the zealous, Hanj Army. Elements of the Hanj Army engaged the Soyabarians as the rest of the first line withdrew to the second.

As the battle dragged on, more and more Ishnalli troops arrived from the north-east.

Near Drassari
The Soyabarian effort to disrupt Ishnalli supply lines from the river saw poor results. The Soyabarian boats had no visibility beyond their line of sight, where the bulk of Ishnalli supplies were moved, and so were largely firing blind and hoping they hit something. And once they did open fire, they soon found themselves counterattacked by Ishnalli forces on both sides of the rivers. Unlike the Soyabarian boats, the Ishnalli had more mobility and spotters--who were able to guide Ishnalli artillery into landing direct hits on the boats. Ishnalli infantry also sneaked towards the riverbeds and opened fire using anti-armor weapons, aiming to blow hopes in the sides of the ships.

Skies above Drassari
As the Soyabarian anti-aircraft aircraft approached the battlefield, the Ishnalli played their trump card. Ishnalli forces had advanced enough that Drassari was now within their anti-aircraft curtain. Thanks to AWAC systems behind their lines as well as forward radar units, the Ishnall were able to detect the Soyabarian aircraft before they were in position to attack Ishnalli armor--and guide Ishnalli anti-aircraft missiles to intercept them.

As they approached the battlefield, the Soyabarian strike fighters found themselves at the mercy of their worst enemy: a homing surface-to-air missile. Ishnalli fighters had also been launched to intercept them.

Soyabarian camp near Drassari
Largely unhindered by the Soyabarian strike fighters, the Ishnalli armor attacking the Soyabarian lines continued to assist the Ishnalli infantry seizing the Soyabarian positions. Soyabarian transport helicopters found themselves assaulted by both vehicle- and infantry-launched anti-aircraft rockets, while their infantry, unloading into clearings, were exposed to Ishnalli machine gun fire.

Other elements of the Ishnalli advanced sought out to find and disrupt Soyabarian artillery positions. The Ishnalli had no shortage of men.

Soyabarian air base in New Zealmark
The strike aircraft the Soyabarians had launched to attack the Ishnalli armor made it easier for the Ishnalli's own strike aircraft to find the air base. And when they did, the struck systematically. Ishnalli stealth fighters first fired anti-radiation missiles to knock out Soyabarian radar, which was quickly followed by strike fighters targeting the runways and other discernible valuable targets.

A second wave followed shortly after the first, again opened by anti-radiation missiles to disable guided air defenses. The Ishnalli were aiming to give the Soyabarian aircraft already in the air nowhere to return to and make it difficult for the Commonwealth to continue opposing the Empire in the skies.

Ishnalli Sea
The Ishnalli completely expected their facilities on Paschlam Island to be attacked, though they didn't quite expect the haphazard, poorly guided attack the Soyabarian submarines executed. Still, when the Soyabarian missiles rained down on the island, Ishnalli defenses ripped alive. CIWS and RAM systems positioned around the base and on the roofs of buildings intercepted and destroyed the majority of Soyabarian missiles, greatly limiting the damage. The Ishnalli lost only a fuel depot, a barracks, and a few hangers, as well as two of numerous runways.

The Soyabarians, however, would lose a lot more. When the submarines surfaced to fire, the revealed their location to Ishnalli anti-submarine forces. Ishnalli aircraft in the air forwarded their locations to Ishnalli anti-submarine destroyers, who began to hunt the Soyabarian submarines alongside their anti-submarine helicopters. A few were close enough to immediately fire anti-submarine missiles and torpedoes.

The Svarnan troops had moved in from the east since the commencement and announcement of joining the war. The Svarnan military started their sweep through the east of the nation with tanks and airforce leading the charge to clear the way for Svarnan army. The deal with the Ishnallans was being upheld. Soon Svarna would have control. The military had confidence , after all it was over 3 million against a tiny soyabaran force in comparison. As the Svarnan army progressed they bombarded the Soyabaran army and moved troops quickly with the aim of striking a blow quickly.

After about a week of getting into position. Arkianian ships now waited for Soybar ships to intercept. Careful orders were given to not fire on Soyabar ships but block their path by any means possible. The Royal Airforce was put on alert, and Anti-air battieries were put on alert throughout the coast in a precaution should Soyabar attack.

The whole new zealmarkian front

The commonwealth armies are on the brink of collapse, the supply line was broken or about to get broken by a naval blockade, the assault at drassari failed and it was scandalous. The emperor of the soyabarian empire that was also the head of state of New zealmark realised the utter destruction of his armies was imminent. So he instructed his high command to order a cease fire and only fight in defense of the already in control areas.
The fronts fell silent all over the theater after the enemies of new zealmark realised they stopped all offensive action probrably suspecting something might be happening above the average soldier's heads, something on the high command level.
After this the emperor send this message to all other nations involved in the conflict.

Quote:Dear international leaders and other high commands

We, the emperor of Soyabar and Newzealmark. Head of the Soyabarian commenwealth contact you with a reason. The reason being the war in New zealmark.
We, regret to be on the brink of total brink of destruction in this war. So while we still have the chance Soyabar offers its conditional surrender. As a sign of good favor, after the sending of this message I will abdicate as the emperor of New Zealmark investing my little remaining official powers in the legitimate goverment of New zealmark.

Because let us not forget that this war began over a coup orchestrated by a group of fanatics. I will personally not oversee the negotiations not even on the Soyabarian part. If you decide to accept this offer of peace and diplomatic talks New Zealmark will be represented by it rightfull prime minister Perwatu as acting head of state and assembly of New Zealmarkian diplomats, and for the Soyabarian side of it all will be represented by the high command present in the region.
