* 1554: Zakare Romonge, an Anulu, is elected President of Gable
* 1555 Dein: an Abone military coup literally decapitates much of Romonge's government; fighting erupts between Abone military units and military units of ethnic minorities and civilian resistance movements
* 1555 Vintyr: the Gablese Secretary of State, Abdel Nzambe, petitions the governments of Southerland, Nyland, and the HLE for assistance
* 1556 Alvan: the Holy Lanlanian Empire leads the Gable Intervention of 1556, assisting the "loyalist military" against the "rebelling military"
* 1557 Marth: much of the heavy fighting has ceased and the coalition forces begin setting up a new government
* 1557 Fein: mass graves are discovered in areas occupied by Abone military units, sparking an investigation into possible war crimes
* 1558: Abdel Nzambe is elected President and forms a government with no distinction to ethnicity
* 1560: Gableese officers and enlistees on both sides of the civil war are tried for war crimes and crimes against humanity
* 1564: the last coalition troops withdraw from Gable
* 1572: the last few officers are tried for their crimes, and the government of Gable declares that chapter of its history over
* 1574: Abdel Nzambe dies in office and his multicultural administration is succeeded by a Abone-majority government under Odin Rewaka
* 1575: the Gablese government increases pressure on the education system to push Lanlanian as the common language
* 1578: an Abone man accused of raping and murdering several Anulu women is acquitted before an Abone jury, sparking riots in eastern Gable; ethnic tensions begin to rise again
* 1581: an insurgency against Rewaka's government begins in central Gable and quickly spreads across Gable
* 1582: Gable's already-struggling economy is further disrupted by the insurgency and the first oil tanker is successfully held for ransom
* 1584: Gablese rebels controls much of the country's east, despite Rewaka's insistence that the situation is under control
* 1586: piracy in the Skathian Sea and Khivan Ocean reaches its height, reaching even the coast of Skathia; though mostly based in Gable, other impovrished people in Skathia and Khiva (the big ass peninsula Gable is on) are also trying their luck
* 1587: States begin coordinating their efforts to police the Skathian Sea and Khivan Ocean with the formation of Combined Task Forces 160 and 161 between the HLE, Nyland, Oslanburg, and <insert more volunteers here>

INDEED. Rather than just saying "there's pirates there, let's go fuk 'em up", I've given them a FACE. The piracy is only part of the problem/a symptom though, the result of a-totally-not-a-civil-war in Gable.

Rewaka swears the situation is under control and is refusing foreign assistance, but its obvious it's not and there's reports of more atrocities that may or may not be genocide, but whatever it is we should definitely not it genocide because genocide is a strong word that may or may not demand that we do something about it. But Rewaka is definitely not behind it, for realsies.

What are we actually RPing, you ask?

Anti-piracy operations are a cover for Lanlanian imperialism elsewhere in the world. Mainly, our navies actually going out and doing something. I don't know (or really care about, frankly) about your guy's navies, but the HLE is trying to get into the swing of exercising its and asserting key concept it cares about (laws of the sea, in this case). I suppose participating would give you nerds something to do, even if it's only slapping around poor people with AKs and RPGs on rotting motorboats and rusting fishing trawlers (why do you hate poor people?).

Additionally, we may discuss doing something about Gable. Its president doesn't want us to, but the country and people are not a good shape.

Also, I will be doing something with an island elsewhere in the world, but that's not relevant here.

Do you distinguish between true piracy and mercenary type privateering?

Short answer: I am 100% certain your privateers are pirates if they're attacking a vessel flying the flag of a state your privateers' flag state isn't at war with.

Longer answer: If your mercenaries engage in privateering while flying the flag of and being registered in Taeunas, Taeunas is waging war on the victim state. If your mercenaries engage in privateering flying the flag of and are registered in the hiring state, then that state is waging war on the victim state. If your mercenaries are flying no flag and are not registered in any state, they are not protected under international law and may legally be boarded, searched, and seized and/or sunk by any state.

If there's a in-game history of mysterious ships doing that last one, there's problems systems in place to combat funny business (eg., the no-flag state deciding to fly a flag it's not registered under when approached by a navy ship).

The best, legally way for the red branch to operate would be to register under the hiring state and fly its flag while on a contract. So long as they're flying a flag and following international law (eg., attack only vessels their flag state is at war with), they wouldn't run into any problems.
