The Zarosian Pantheon
The Zarosian Pantheon is a polytheistic religious pantheon introduced to the local population of Romerike when the Zaryte Cultists invaded and established the Carta vel Foederatum. It is the state religion of the Federal Kingdom of Romerike, and while worship is mandatory citizens are allowed to worship their “local pantheons,” so long as a worship tax is paid.
The Zarosian religion is based around the ideal that everyone in the world has a fate, that while predetermined, can be influenced and changed by adherence to the [Laws of Order]. This extends to all living beings, regardless of if they worship Zaros or not.
Zarosians believe that when they are killed they will either be sent to the Aeternium (Zaros’ divine home) or the Aetherium (place of eternal damnation). To enter Aeternium one must follow the [Laws of Order] and live a moral and just life. Those who live treacherous, murderous and amoral lives will be sent to the Aetherium where their souls are ripped and torn apart for eternity.
The Zarosian pantheon contains seven gods, one ‘Elder’ god and six ‘younger’ gods: Zaros, Azzanadra, Sliske, Wahisietel, Nex, Charr'a, and Kharsai.
Zaros
- Zaros is the eldest god in the Zarosian Pantheon. He is the God of Fate and Control, and the deity to which the rest of the Zarosian gods owe their power. He raised the younger gods up from the last remaining members of a long forgotten race, imbuing them with his own divine essence and tasking them with maintaining order over certain aspects of society. He is said to appear often as a thirteen eyed man-like creature clad in purple robes, trimmed with gleaming gold and obsidian black.
- Azzanadra is the strongest of the younger gods. He is the god which was charged with maintaining the balance of loyalty in Zaryte culture. He was the first to accept Zaros’ gift of divinity, which explains the difference between him and his kin. He appears as a tall two-eyed humanoid with pale white skin and robes of dark and bright red trimmed in black. His eyes are said to appear as though they are engulfed in the flame of loyalty.
- Sliske is the second strongest younger god, and the younger brother of Azzanadra. He was charged by Zaros with maintaining order over those who would use trickery and deceit to obtain their goals. He often utilizes those with wicked and deceitful hearts to achieve his own goals, subtly defying Zaros. It has led to the popular saying “Wicked hearts are Sliske’s playthings” in Zaryte society. Sliske appears as a tall two-eyed humanoid with dull grey skin, and poor posture. He often appears clad in dark grey robes trimmed with vibrant green.
- Wahisietel is the third most powerful of the younger gods, and was charged by Zaros with watching over and guiding those who idolize wisdom and intellect. He is the patron god of Kings, Philosophers, Scholars and anyone else who values wisdom or the wise. Wahisietel was initially distrustful of Zaros’ offer of divinity. However after some thoughtful discussion and debate with the Elder God, he changed his mind and encouraged his kin to accept. He appears normally as a tall two-eyed, grey skinned humanoid clad in light grey robes with gold and purple trim.
- Nex is the fourth most powerful of the younger gods, and one of the twin goddesses. She was charged by Zaros with protecting and guiding Zarosian warriors as well as balancing her sister Charr’a, to ensure that any destruction caused in war was no greater than it had to be. Nex was the greatest warrior of the younger gods and as such Zaros made her his ‘Legatus Primes’ and she served as his left hand, just as Azzanadra served as his right hand. Nex normally appears as a tall, slender, two-eyed humanoid with dark black wings and pale white skin. She is normally clad in firey red robes and silver-gold plate armor.
- Charr’a is the fifth most powerful younger god, and one of the twin goddesses. She was charged by Zaros with safeguarding and guiding the process of natural destruction. She would often go further with this than Zaros intended, and he would send her sister Nex to tame her. Charr’a normally appears as a tall, slender, two-eyed humanoid with pale white wings and dark ebony skin. She is normally clad in bright yellow-gold robes with red and purple trim.
- Kharsai is the sixth most powerful of the younger gods, and is the eldest brother of Azzanadra. He was charged by Zaros with safeguarding peace, and protecting those who work in the name of diplomacy. Kharsai was the last of his kin to accept Zaros’ offer of divinity. He had come to terms with the extinction of his people, and it took the convincing of his brothers Azzanadra and Sliske to change his mind. Kharsai appears as a tall two-eyed grey skinned humanoid with a short beard, clad in robes of pure white, trimmed purple around the opening of his hood
