1598 Tour de Valland
#5

Stage 17 | Mountain stage - 187 km

The 16th stage was a bittersweet day for MTS-Biassoni, as Yamaguchi Shoyo won the stage but their leader Godomar Guur lost the red jersey and most his options to the title as he lost more than three minutes to the main group.

A minute after Shoyo crossed the finish, a group of twelve riders arrived, which included most of the favourites except Husevich, who lost another 4 minutes and all options to the general classification.

Ceribian Pharnavaz Undiladze (Bagdati) was the new leader of the general classification, twenty-one seconds ahead of Weatherhead. Nylander Blaise Brunschvicq (NDM) was third at one minute and twenty-one seconds.

Stage 18 | Mountain stage - 138 km

It seemed a perfect and likely last chance for the 35-year old Adwetene climber to win his 6th Tour de Valland. However, Undiladze showed that he was read to win the Tour, and only Nerysia Jarik Nytar (BataVelo) and Soyabarian Ulrick Vandenhof (Télecon) were able to follow him in a last attack.

The stage was won by Oslanburgan Kjeld Povlsen (Luft Wurberg).

Blaise Brunschvicq, who lost a minute to Undiladze was second at one minute and twenty-eight seconds. Weatherhead lost more than two minutes minutes, and was third at three minutes and three seconds. Only four seconds behind was Strathaen Tuathal Seoras, while Nytar and Vanderhof climbed to the fifth and sixth position.

Stage 19 | Mountain stage - 111 km

Shalva Jughasvili (Magram) won the final high mountain stage.

As soon as Seoras and Weatherhead started to have problems to follow the pace of the main group in the last climb, Nytar took the lead until the group was reduced to six riders. Eventually, he found cooperation from Vanderhof and Undiladze.

Nytar, however, who had virtually secured the podium already, was not able to follow the last attack by the Soyabarian climber, who was only followed by Mordvanian Zeljko Bratansek (Mordvania) and Goldecians Caleb Foster and Jack Marshall (Ogo). Undiladze could not follow last Vanderhof's attack, but was able to reduce the distance to lose only twelve seconds in the finish and more than comfortable last kilometres.

Nytar paid the effort of the last climb and would lose nineteen seconds to the Soyabarian climber, who would overcame him in the general classification as consequence. The Nerysian rider needed to wait another thirty seconds until it was confirmed that Weatherhead lost the third place in the podium. For first time in a decade, the Adwestene champion will not be at the Tour de Valland podium.

Stage 20 | Flat stage - 110 km

Mordvanian sprinter Miroslav Gradishar (Iskra) won the final stage at the mass sprint, defeating Christophe Villiers (Anzcell) and Adi Shulman (Ogo Cycling).
