This is already a thing. Brum, as you pointed out, this stuff is already used in lots of manufactured goods. Mecedes Benz uses Hemp plastic in their doors. The only issue that keeps it from being more widespread is the other uses the plant has. Scientifically speaking, sativa sativa, the variety most widely used for industrial hemp production, has a much lower THC content (.3%) that its cousin sativa indica (6-20+%). But, because both can technically be used for their recreational effects, and the fact that they look so similar, they have both had a stigma around them for the last 70 years or so, especially in the US. If/when federal restrictions are lifted on the growing of Hemp as opposed to Marijuana there is speculation that it would replace soybeans and even cotton on the industrial crop list.
