looooool that's old. If that's the case, I might hijack my parents' broken desktop and use/upgrade that, instead, since it's more powerful (a little?) un-upgraded, and runs on either XP (woohoo) or Vista (*gags*).
Mm, I'm not going to ask you to spend money on this unless we have a plan, you know? Unless you can scrounge that RAM for free somewhere. The main problem with a computer from 15-20 years ago is it might be running, what, Windows 98? Windows ME? It might not be able to run the server software, if that's the case, and fuck if we're going to buy an OS license just for this, amirite? Fully upgraded it sounds like what my old laptop is running at...which I can also further upgrade to 4gb ram. It's not quick with a Centrino whatever mobile processor, but if I spend the time to clear off basically everything, it might run okay.
Regardless, I'm probably going to start off running the server off my desktop, so you lot can hack into all my porn we have a rig that's actually been tested to work as a server even while I'm doing other things (but I'm using a little more memory than back then; I need to fix that soon, too). Of course, since it's on my personal machine & I don't want people I don't know on it, the server's going to be private and only known to us. No sharing the credentials without consent, or I'm shutting it down and waiting until I get a second rig set up.
That's the plan, anyway. I should make some headway sometime this coming week.
