  Regarding the Election

Hello members of Eternity!

Something has been weighing on my mind recently, and as the Chief of Public Relations I want to make sure some things are straight before tonight.

As some of you may be aware, there is a particularly divisive election taking place. Many of our members are Americans and so are directly affected by these elections. The rest of you pay attention to politics, and may or may not care about the election, but still have passing interest, even only in passing the many American members.

I have noticed (in myself as well) that we have some strong opinions about this election, and that in the end there will be a winner and a loser(s) after today (or longer if there is any election funny business). I want to set things straight now so that we can hopefully avoid some... uncomfortable conversations in the future.

First of all, we do have rules of etiquette. Feel free to view them whenever. They are here .

Second of all, I want you all to know that, no matter who you support, and however much we may disagree, you are all welcome here. Everyone has a right to be a member here, and their political views will not change that. I know I'm not always the best at being a good example, but I know I speak for the whole staff when I say everyone has the right to feel welcome here.

You are also free to have your own opinions and ideas, and the ability to share them freely, barring common-sense sort of things. We can disagree about things and still stay cordial and friendly with each other, if not amicable at least. The fact that we have a diverse set of opinions and perspectives on this board is something I take very seriously. It's a good thing to disagree, people, just don't be rude. That being said, I cannot always ensure that peoples feelings are not hurt. I can't protect people from their own ideas and how others may or may not react to them. I cant make everything better (though I try sometimes, every now and again). We will need to exercise discretion and in a way, choose our battles.

Anyway, I'm kind of rambling a bit, but hopefully you get the meaning of what I'm trying to say. Here are some tips I believe will help us get through this tumultuous election period.

1. Turn off the gloating: Seriously, I know it's tempting. I'm going to have to seriously check myself on this one if my candidate wins. Gloating about the result, whichever way it may be, will not improve the atmosphere of this board, or the community we have here. I will be very cross with anyone who seems to be... excessive, if that makes sense. Seriously, we don't need to be rude about it. We will all be able to see the results.

2. If you can't take the heat... : My good friend Blacaria mentioned, yesterday I believe, that he may not come on the board tonight during the results. This isn't a totally terrible idea, though it doesn't really help anything. If you don't think you'll be able to handle yourself without going hog-wild and upsetting other people, you might want to take a break for a few days. I'm not advocating people not show up, and discussions tonight will surely be entertaining in a way, but really, if you can't take the heat, you probably shouldn't go into the kitchen.

3. Be courteous: This one is so big to me. Seriously: we've known each other over the internet for how long? I've known lombro for like... what is it... 2011? 2012? (lol lom remember alterra?) The rest of you losers I've known since... 2013 summer I believe. This election is not worth trashing relationships, even online ones, of that length. I know we don't always appreciate each others opinions, and that's okay, but seriously. Think about the other people you're communicating with and treat them well. The trick is to be good-spirited with each other. We can disagree about things and still be chill about it.

4. Go to the necessary authorities: If something does go awry, and you feel someone has broken the etiquette guidelines in their treatment of you or another member, bring it up to me, the Chief of Public Relations, or Lynis. Lynis is pretty busy, so he may not be about. Before you come to me though, remember... arguments and disagreements are allowed --- in good spirits --- and we can't really tell people to agree with each other. If someone is being unnecessarily rude or mean-spirited, come find me. If that person is me... and it really shouldn't be me, but just covering the bases, you can either come to me directly and tell me I'm being an ass, or go to Lynis. I'll have you guys know I usually crumble and apologize when people tell me I'm being a jerk lol. Also, make sure you come to me in private. Doing it publicly just inflames things.

If you take those tips into consideration and carry yourself well and treat your fellow members with respect, I don't see why we'll have many problems.

That being said, I will be about tonight and I will be especially keen on making sure things don't get out of hand. You're all grown ups (mostly), it doesn't have to be a madhouse tonight.

Let's be better than Donald and Hillary.

-Remain with Soyabar: Borders will remain as it is
-Vassalisation by soyabar: A local noble will be crowned king of New Zealmark and swears fealty to Soyabar it is the middle way between Full independance and remaining.

  Memories of the Old Republic

(OOC: This is a continuation of a Space RP thread I started in Caprecia. I just felt like writing some futuristic stuff, so here it is.)

Several generations ago, there stood a town where now there was only rock. It was called the Germald Memorial Site, and a nice, quaint little plaque which informed the reader that this used to be the location of the city of Germald. The town had been blown to nothingness during the Siege of Capentia, in which the Arcultian fleet—victorious from the Battle for Arcultia—pounded the old republic into submission. Technically, the republic of old still existed; run by useless old men who bickered and shouted about decisions that they were, in actuality, unable to make or enforce. The Arcultian viceroy, with his Planetary Security, was the real power on Capentia.

The Arcultian Emperor had allowed the old republican government to stay in power after the planet surrendered. On the outside, it would seem as if the Capentian people still ruled themselves, that they still held power over their own lives. Though any man with half his wits could see past the ruse, unfortunately most men seemed to lack half their wits, and were content to go about their daily lives under the watchful eye of their Arcultian overlords, telling themselves that they still held power over themselves. Fools.

Ben dropped his cigarette and ground the bud into the dirt with his boot. Turning around, he nodded to the Planetary Security officer on duty at the memorial. The PlanSec officer didn’t return the nod, but stared straight ahead without showing any emotion. Ben didn’t know what they did to the PlanSec trainees to make them so dull, but he figured he’d rather not find out. He went to his vehicle, started it up, and began the drive back towards the city. Once he reached the city limit, he had to stop at the checkpoint. He knew this routine, and got his identification card ready. "PLEASE PRESENT YOUR IDENTIFICATION CARD TO THE SCANNER," the robotic voice said. He held out the card, and a green light shown up and down the card, and beeped. "BENDON FRANDERICO. WELCOME BACK TO CAPENTIA CITY."

Every man, woman, and child on Capentia was issued an I.D. card by the government. Supposedly it was to make the solving of crimes and tallying of censuses easier, but Ben knew that it was also a way to keep an eye on the people. He knew that inside of his card, there was a miniscule little chip that tracked his exact location, the same with all the other cards. Normally, this would present an acute difficulty for someone in his line of work—but luckily some of his colleagues had discovered a way to interfere with the tracker chip’s signal, to make it appear that he was somewhere where he wasn’t. This made meetings a lot easier.

Ben set the vehicle on automatic cruise control, entered his home’s coordinates to the vehicle computer, sat back, and let his eyes close. He was awoken to the sound of, "Destination reached." from his vehicle computer. He was inside his home garage. Yawning, he opened the door and stepped out. "Lights on," he said tiredly, and the lights popped on immediately. He went through his house and sat in his bed. However, instead of laying down and going to sleep—as it was growing quite late—he reached under the bed, opened a secret compartment in the floor, and pulled out a small, portable device with a card-swipe on the side of it. He swiped his I.D. card through it, and hit a few buttons. "LOCATION: HOME, BED." it read on the little screen. He put the device carefully back into the floor compartment, and put his card back in his pocket. It was dangerous to travel about without your card. If you were caught by PlanSec without an I.D., they’d arrest you on the spot and take you in for questioning. He didn’t intend on being caught, but better safe than undergoing Arcultian questioning.

He couldn’t take his vehicle either. They had eyes everywhere in the streets. The only safe mode of discreet travel was via the old tunnels. They were old sewer tunnels, hundreds of years old. Most of the sewers had been upgraded to fit the needs of the city as time and technology progressed, however there were several miles of tunnels as yet undiscovered by the formal authorities. It was via these old tunnels that Ben would go to his meeting. By day, Ben was your average, unremarkable citizen. He held a day job as a white collar office worker, doing boring paperwork all day. By night, however, he was a commander in the underground Capentian Liberation Front.

First Conference for West Brigidnan Cooperation

THE DENIL CONFERENCE FOR WEST BRIGIDNAN COOPERATION
Also known as the Friendship Conference

[Image: tumblr_mqha4ygmed1rslvw3o3_1280.jpg?w=620]

The First Conference for West Brigidnan Cooperation is an event created by the Florinthian government to create a space in which nations from the West Brigidnan sphere can discuss topics pertinent to them, as well as allow for dialogue on mutual cooperation. The Federation believes there is much untapped potential within the region that is only waiting to be unleashed, if the various nations could only get along better. By hosting and planning this event, the Federation hopes that all who attend might begin to see eye-to-eye and that, in time, the region might be able to cooperate on important matters.

The conference itself is a two-week event to take place during the month of Marth in 1580. The invited nations are expected to, should they decide to attend, send a delegation of important people, be they government officials or simply influential individuals. The first conference does not have any major topics to discuss, but is instead simply a forum for assembled delegations to meet and discuss topics pertinent to them. The purpose of this is to ensure that all assembled nations are on the same page and can know where each other stand on topics such as foreign affairs, immigration, economic development, and many others.

The invited nations to this event are as follows:

Aurentine
Castleon
Dyrheim
East Kaljurand
Eskkya
Florinthus
Galeae
Gehenna
Gein Lochland
Holy Lanlanian Empire
Kave
Kyrland
Laurentian Kingdom

  Nyland Elections, Vintyr 1580

1580 Nyland Federal Elections
For President and Half the Legislature
15 Vintyr 1580

Quote:This is a thread for the 1580 elections in Nyland. The Presidency is contested, and half the legislature's seats are up for grabs. Actual in-context, rp voting takes place in Vintyr, but I'm starting the thread now because I won't be here for two weeks, and I want to make sure this gets up. I will give notification to when voting opens later.

Party Voting is CLOSED

Presidential Voting is CLOSED
>>> CLICK HERE TO VOTE <<<

Welcome to the 1580 Elections! We have a very important election this time around, but when are they not: not only are half of the legislature's seats open, the Presidency is up for grabs again! Last election saw the yellow banner of liberalism lowered from the gates of the Assembly and the White House after more than two continuous decades in power, as Tilda Morgen and a Center/Left coalition gained control of the government. Will Morgen's record in office convince the people that she's deserving of a second term? Will the growing voices of reaction and nationalism continue to grow into power, as the country - and the world - grows more polarized?

As always when we have both a presidential and legislative voting year, voting will take place in two phases:

Party Voting will start when Sal and I return from Iceland (about the 14th or 15th), and run until the end of 1580. Everyone will have TWO votes to split between all parties; yes, this is a major change from the normal procedure of three votes, but I'm still juggling things to see what the "best" system is. A list of all registered parties, and links to their information can be found below, and may also be found within the vote itself. If you don't see any parties that fit your ideals, you like, or want to create your own just for the heck of it, then you can come to this thread and set one up! If you're curious about the makeup of the past term's legislature, you can see that at the veeeeeery bottom of this post.

Current Seats Affected by This Election

Nyland Liberalists : 53 open seats
Progressive Conservative Party : 31 open seats
Florinthian Liberal Union : 6 open seats
Nylander Popular Alliance : 38 open seats
Against All!: 5 open seats
Nyland Greens : 37 open seats
Ultranationalist Party : 39 open seats
New Centrist List : 40 open seats
National Messanic Party : 16 open seats

PRESIDENTIAL voting will happen closer to the end of the year, most likely the beginning/middle of Treizen, to give candidates enough time to be brought forward and seen by the public; if you would like to put forth a candidate, see the form below. Remember, anyone who wins the election will be the President of Nyland, and the person who put forth that person as president will essentially be "in control" of the direction the country will take! You get one vote for presidents, but this vote will be a ranking of your top three or four picks, depending on the number of candidates available. A list of candidates is below, as well.
