Armed Forces of the Republic of Tiejungo

Overview

The Republic of Tieungo Armed Forces are also known as the ROTAF or Tiejungo Armed Forces, are the military services responsible for the defense of the Republic of Tiejungo. The ROTAF is compromised of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Reserve Force, and Special Forces. The ROTAF draws it's history from the Colonial Armed Forces of Tiejungo (CAFT), under the command of the Armed Forces of Arch-Kingdom of Oslanburg before it was renamed and restructured after Oslanburg handed military responsibilities to the Republic of Tiejungo post independence. Until the last 20 years, the Tiejungo Armed Forces conscripted all eligible males and females between the ages of 18-35 into the Armed Forces for a service period of no less than four years. However the military forces underwent signifiant restructuring after the release of the 1555 Defense White Paper identified that a smaller, more professionalized, high-tech service would better fit the needs of the nation. Even though conscription is still required by the constitution of Tiejungo, conscripts go though a 12 week basic training course, and then have the option to enter the voluntary ROTAF or re-enter civilian life to be called up during national emergencies.

The Tiejungo Armed Forces had a budget of $54,633,576,260 in 1595 compromising 3.5% of the GDP of Tiejungo. Total active-duty personnel numbers in 1595 were 154,680, divided into the following sections: Army (84,270), Navy (30,130), Air Force (32,960), and Foreign Legion (8,320). The Reserve Force counts almost nearly all people fit for military service, however many reservists have had no additional military training since their original basic training course, and are likely only to be called up during an invasion of Tiejungo itself. Tiejungo has around 15 million people available for military service, 12.5 million fit for military service, and around 450 thousand people reaching military age annually.

Since the founding of the ROTAF, the military's primary mission is the defense of the Republic of Tiejungo a possible military invasion by the Armed Forces of Tieguo, which is still seen as the predominant threat to Tiejungo. The military of Tiejungo has one of the most advanced armed forces in the region because of the high priority the government of Tiejungo has put on the armed forces.

Army

The Army the largest active-duty branch of the armed forces. The Army has a single command structure based at Haesong known as "Army Headquarters". Deployable combat formations consists of two divisions and eight brigades. The Army is comprised of 36 battalions of infantry, organized into 17 regiments. Each regiment is assigned to one of four operational roles: air assault, armored infantry, mechanized infantry, and light role infantry. In addition, the Army has 10 Armored battalions divided into 3 operational role: Armored, Armored Cavalry, and Light Calvary. In addition to combat units, support units are grouped by role and purpose, such as the Corps of Engineers, Army Air Corps, and Royal Army Medical Corps.

Navy

The Navy is the third largest active-duty branch of the ROTAF. It consists of 85 commissioned ships. The Navy is divided into two major sections: Surface Fleet and the Submarine Service. The Surface fleet consists of: 3 amphibious transport docks, 6 destroyers, 6 frigates, 12 littoral mission vessels, 36 Patrol Missile Craft and 10 auxiliary vessels. The Submarine Service consists of 12 submarines.

Air Force

The Air Force is the second largest active-duty branch of the armed forces. It has a 450 fixed-wing and rotary aircraft. Frontline aircraft are controlled by Air Command and are assigned to one of five operational roles: Air Combat, Air Support, Air and Space Operations, Training aircraft and Ground Facilities, and Unit Support (Engineering, Logistics, Communications and Medical Operations). The Air Force operates multi-role (250) and strike fighters (25), reconnaissance aircraft (9), tankers (6), AEW&C (4), transports (12), helicopters (72), unmanned aerial vehicles, and various types of training aircraft (72).

Reserve Force

The Reserve Force is the only non-active branch of the armed forces. It is used to account and track conscripts post-basic training and offers voluntary training for reservists throughout the year, though a majority of the Reserve Force have not attended any training after their 12 week conscription has ended. Before the 1555 Defense White Paper Reservists were required to attend annual training and monthly unit call-ups for 10 years after their initial conscription, with voluntary training after the 10 year mark.

The Foreign Legion

The Foreign Legion is the smallest active-duty branch of the armed forces of Tiejungo. They are used by the military as a force multiplayer and are equipped with the most advanced equipment in the region, most of it developed in Tiejungo with Brigandian allies such as Oslanburg. Commanded by Tiejungo officers, it is open to both citizens and foreign recruits willing to serve in the Tiejungo Armed Forces. The Foreign Legion is known as a unit whose training focuses on traditional military skills and on its strong esprit de corps, as its men come from different countries with different cultures. Tiejungo citizenship may be applied for after four years service. The Foreign Legion draws it's roots from the Foreign Section of the CAFT where troops from the section were used to protect and expand Oslanburg interests in the region. Today the Foreign Legion is equipped as a advanced rapid-deployment infantry force capable of full-spectrum combat due to the extremely high level of training and technological equipment used. The Foreign Legion is reliant on the Navy and Air Force for transport to their destination, but are equipped to be combat sufficient for up to 72 hours.
