Decision 1582 - Aerandariel - 03-14-2017

DECISION 1582

ELECTION NIGHT

The Battle for the Senate

It is that time once again. It is Election Night in Angiris, with the Imperial Senate on the line in an election where the balance of power could once again shift. Two years ago, Chancellor Aerandariel Apotecarius held on to power after two rounds of voting and carried with him 29 Republicans into the Senate and an eventual coalition with the Democratic Party. Now two years later the script has been flipped. The Republican Party is weakened, the Conservative Party has found itself in deep trouble after a decade of defeat, and numerous minor parties that have risen to fill the opposition vacuum have been overwhelmed by both the still nearly unmatchable strength of the top two parties but also the emergence of the Democratic and Orthodox Conservative parties as the two new political powerhouses. for the entire campaign this year, the Republicans, Conservatives, Democrats and Orthodox have run nearly neck-and-neck. The Republicans started out in front, expecting to hold court like they have for years until the insurgent Democrats came roaring into play, eventually overtaking the Republicans. Meanwhile the Orthodox Conservatives, starting out fifth in the polls at the outset, surged to a strong third place to overtake the mainstream Conservative Party. The twists and turns this campaign have taken have produced some of the most incredible political shifts that the Angirisian Empire has yet seen.

So what could happen tonight? Some say the Republican Party, despite all the polls, could still come out on top and the status quo remains in place. Others say the Democratic Party will attain the mantle of power for the first time ever and change the landscape of the nation. There are others who say there may be no clear winner tonight. But one thing is certain: nobody will attain the magic number of 36 seats needed to clinch a majority in the Senate and possess unmatched power in the legislative body.

The 1580 results fell like this:

The Republicans, with 29 seats, held on to their status as strongest party in the Senate, with not even a combined opposition coalition of 14 Conservatives and 14 Orthodox Conservatives able to overtake them. Add on the 12 Democrats elected in 1580 and you have a coalition bench of 41 with the 5 Federalists and lone Communist as the outliers.

Throughout the night, we'll be filling up a map of the Angirisian Empire as each of the 79 seats declares for one party or another. It is expected to be a night filled with more twists and turns that nobody could or would see coming and hopefully we see a clear winner before night's end. Welcome to Election Night in Angiris!
