RE: Discussion on Hypersonic Aircraft - Ayzek - 11-14-2018

The Directorate:
  • clarifies it is considering "hypersonic speed flight" technology as a whole and no specific type of engine,
  • approves this submission,
  • affirms that the technology is available to any state with an advanced aerospace industry,
  • recognizes no specific state as an industry leader,
  • mandates the following until reality proves otherwise:

Hypersonic aircraft:
  • have low maneuverable at hypersonic speeds,
  • have a strong infrared signature,
  • may have a reduced radar signature through the use of stealth technology,
  • may incorporate design to reduce sonic boom noise,
  • may be intercepted by post-modern, purpose-designed air defenses;
  • will need to be 2-3x longer than an aircraft of comparable payload, and slightly more so if it incorporates sonic boom suppression technology,
  • should have design and specifications posted in this thread for review.

I will provide a form for the aircraft design and specifications sheet soon-ish.

The requirement of the hypersonic aircraft being longer is based on the fact that the A2 is around 3 times the size of conventional passenger aircraft and carries fewer passengers. If you guys can find arguments otherwise, I'm willing to hear them.

Nevermind the form. After more consideration, it's not /that/ big of a deal. Just keep in mind the limitations above and be reasonable in role play. While your toy is likely to have its way against a technologically inferior foe, modern-to-post-modern states are likely to have the technology, capability, and resources to counter it (eg., eyes on your relevant airfields, advanced radar and infrared detection and methods, high-altitude-capable anti-aircraft/missile missiles).
