RE: Gundam: Siora - Aerandariel - 11-09-2019 Where I see my countries stacking up in the Gundam timeline: Coasting for much of the first half of the century, the Angirisian Dominion still remained among the world's great powers. However, as the Lost Decade approached, things began to change. The changes in the world economy greatly affected the Dominion, and making matters worse was the rising tide of geopolitical instability. The Great War's beginning in 1654 was the final nail in the proverbial coffin. The Angirisians, noting the incredibly weakened position of its centuries-long rival Lanlania, took advantage of their situation by initiating an invasion and subsequent occupation of Pythos. The two nations, backed by their respective allies, battled for years. Much like the Sentric War in ancient times, the Lanlanians penetrated deep into Angirisian territory, scorching the Veridian Islands, besieging and heavily damaging Tythonopolis, laying waste to Mount Arreat and its denizens, destroyed the city of Tristram and even managing to level the capital city of Cathedrium. But even those losses were just a stay of execution as the Angirisians stormed back west, overrunning Pythos and even managing to capture the western half of the former Ustyaran territory. The destruction of much of the western Dominion forced the government north to Aiur, and Angirisian forces began a march north to sure up defenses in the Arreatian Mountain ranges. It is hard to imagine with the establishment of the major power blocs that the Angirisians jumped at the chance. But as the Great War ended and peace once again somewhat took hold over most of the world, the Angirisian Dominion found itself at a crossroads. The Leoric Dynasty finally collapsed, and the Senate elected an Aiurian as Emperor. The new monarch, Tassadar V, established the Fourth Aiurian Dynasty with its capital at Aiur. Tassadar proclaimed the end of the Dominion Era and began reorganize the country into a Second Angirisian Empire. But while the Throne kept a tight grip on power, it also began to democratize the Empire to a degree. While the later Leorian emperors began to rule with an iron fist as war raged on, the Aiurians relaxed their hand and allowed for prosperity to return. It is at that point that the Angirisian Empire would eventually join the Lagrain Union after much debate and much peace-making with Lanlania and West Brigidna. From that point on, the Angirisians would probably have been involved in many of the LU's major projects, including the Space Elevator and the Solar Systems. How much they would be involved would be hard to determine, as constant HPA intrigue in the Near East would cause the Empire to be perpetually on guard. Angirisian forces would be engaged in conflicts in Rojadavistan, A'Sir and Arkiania as the HPA would continually spark conflict in the Near East. The First Solar Wars sapped much of Angiris's strength with numerous warlords rising and falling in the Near East, some of them even harassing the Empire itself. Though these warlords did little to threaten Imperial territory, they did cause damage to Imperial interests in neighboring territories, most notably in Rojadavistan. The Empire would also lend support to the LU during the Arkiania Straits War, fighting HPA forces both on Krinis and in Marzanna. With non-aligned states becoming a thorn in the side, the major power blocs agreed stay out of such nations' affairs. The Empire protested, saying that it had no alternative considering the dangerous situation the Empire found itself in. The Second and Third Solar Wars only further exacerbated the problem, as the Empire had to defend its borders not only against regional warlords who managed to rip the Near East apart but also from HPA interlopers. As 1700 dawns, the Angirisian Empire is in a somewhat precarious position. The new Emperor, Karax, continues to do his best to protect his Empire's borders, all the while backing the Lagrain Union in the new GUNDAM project. Though the Angirisians have a deep distrust of these new "mobile suits", they recognize the worth of these new weapons. The growing strength of the Solhaven Federation was apparent even in 1600, as the country began to coalesce around the new government and established itself as a dominant power in Kvaenna. Up until the Great War, the Federation had clawed its way into the upper echelon of nations backed by a powerful and innovative military and an economy that had become arguably the strongest in Kvaenna. As war broke out on the continent between Falsea, Taeunas, Goldecia and its allies, and Hylis, the Federation initially declared itself "too proud to fight". Maintaining that stance in public was difficult, while behind the scenes the Federation began mobilizing for war just in case. In 1657, the Federation would be attacked by Falsean and Detectatian forces. The surprise attack caught Solhaven off-guard, and one of the most important defensive posts in the country - Frontier Nine - was heavily damaged and thousands of Federation officers were killed. In response, the Federation launched a massive counter-attack out of the city of Magecastle utilizing the full might of the Federation Navy and Air Force. Facing overwhelming odds, the Falsean-Detectatian alliance was forced to fall back within hours of the Federation attack, and Federation forces bombarded the Falsean city of Northaven. The Great War's end saw the Federation come out stronger than it was before, and much of Kvaenna found itself in the shadow of Solhaven. The Federation watched with worry for the next two decades as the Great Power Blocs began to form. Kvaenna entirely went to the Lagrain Union, save for Solhaven, and were quickly integrated. Now facing a potentially stronger enemy than before, the Federation began to panic. The LU, as well as the South Sphere Federation and Human Progress Alliance, fought for influence over Solhaven. This led to major instability, and by 1680 the Federation teetered near collapse. Solhaven became a battleground in the First Solar Wars, as energy concerns gripped the planet. What was left of the Federation flailed wildly at the Three Blocs, attempting to stop the bleeding and save itself from destruction. Local governments rose and fell across Solhaven, and civil war was looming just over the horizon. Finally, in 1683, the Federation re-established itself, drove out most of the foreign agents, and restored order to the country. Largely left alone for a decade, Solhaven began to build back up militarily, knowing that it would probably be drawn into another conflict. That next conflict broke out in 1699, when the LU launched Operation Solaris. Angered by Federation nationalization and seizure of LU-run solar relay stations, the Union launched a massive invasion of the Federation and attempted to isolate it from the rest of the world. Using its proxies in Kvaenna and even troops from Brigidna, the LU tore through a massive chunk of the Federation, but not before Federation forces fought back. For the entire year, Federation and LU armies fought to a stalemate, even with the LU having a significant technological and manpower advantage. By the end of 1699, the war was over. The LU was shocked that the Federation - once thought to be a much weaker nation - had actually gone toe to toe with them and survived. Solhaven meanwhile was war-weary and with much of the country in ruins, it had to make peace. Entering 1700, the Solhaven Federation is still rebuilding from the effects of the Union War. Still remaining outside of all three power blocs, it remains to be seen what the Federation's next move will be. Though the Human Progress Alliance claimed North Ostara as its territory, the Romulan Republic remained outside of the HPA's control, having remained largely isolationist throughout the 1600s. In truth, the Republic spent much of the century putting itself together rather than worry about affairs in the larger world. The HPA leaned heavily on Romulus, especially as energy demands began to increase and unrest began to grip the world. However, Romulus remained stubbornly intransigent, even refusing to allow HPA delegations to enter Romulan territory. For the first half of the 1600s, the Romulans focused on building their Republic, establishing its military and growing its economy. With no real need for a navy, the Romulans spent much of their time building an air force. Their first great achievement came in 1643, when the very first Warbird was unveiled. This new plane was designed as a multi-mission fighter bomber plane capable of stealth, air combat and ground bombardment. Quickly harnessing their industrial power, the Romulans set to work building more Warbirds in hopes of building an Air Force that could compete with even the most powerful of nations. Eventually, the Romulan Republic became recognized as a regional power, and carved out a small sphere of influence over neighboring Argead and Fotia. The Great War saw the role of Romulus change dramatically. As the Great Blocs began to form and North Ostara and the Near East became increasingly unstable, the Republic began to take a more overt role in world affairs. Using their Warbirds and the Romulan Uhlan Corps, Republic troops were involved in peacekeeping missions in its neighboring states and even engaged in a brief conflict with Belayazemlya over fishing rights in the Azure Sea. The formation of the Human Progress Alliance, as well as the influence of nearby Lagrain Union allies, put increasing pressure on Romulus. Controversy over the LU's space elevator caused the HPA to provoke fighting in North Ostara and the Near East; HPA agents stirred up the simmering hatred of the Reman people in the eastern Republic and led to a rise in secessionist sentiment in Remus and formerly Reman-controlled cities. In response, Romulan forces launched a crackdown on secessionists in Remus and openly accused the HPA of interfering in Romulan affairs as well as attempting to cause a civil war. The HPA denied these charges, which only further angered the Romulan government. Despite these issues, the Romulans allowed the LU and HPA to construct solar relay stations in Romulan territory, but slapped a high price tag on the stations and a demand not to install military forces at the stations. Both blocs were not pleased with the terms, but acquiesced, secretly hoping to leverage these stations on the Romulans to join their side. In 1683, the "Rights of Non-Aligned States" agreement was reached between the LU, HPA and South Sphere Federation, an agreement pledging to non-interference in independent nations, Romulus being one of them. Aware of what the blocs had done in places like Solhaven, Lomarre and the Near East, the Republic openly criticized the treaty, saying that it expected the treaty to be violated within six months. However, a year later, the discovery of the "Broda Particle" gave the Romulans the first real opportunity at getting a leg up on the blocs. Using the research of Filip Broda, the Romulans began investing heavily in construction numerous Broda Small Reactors to power both civilian centers and give the military a new fuel source. The Romulans adapted the Broda technology to bolster its fleet, allowing new classes of Warbirds to be built, including the first space-fairing T'Liss Warbird and the D'deridex-class air cruiser. The Romulans also began to attempt to construct their own space elevator, but found themselves frustrated by several mechanical and schematically-related failures. As 1700 dawned, the Romulan Republic was one of the few space-capable independent powers in the world. Though energy constraints have begun to take its toll on the burgeoning Romulan military-industrial complex, it is evident that for the Republic to survive, it has to walk along the very path that the great blocs did. RE: Gundam: Siora - Seperallis - 11-10-2019 Name: Selma Selander Rank: Major Alliance: Lanlania (Lagrain Union) Birthplace: Rylmark Age: 40 Sex: Pink Haro Appearance:
Here's a pic or something: Selma is a Lanlanian from Rylmark with dusty brown hair and brown eyes, a squarer jaw with more angular features, and a little bit of that tanned thing going on. Standing at about 5'7", she's heavier than most and somewhat rectangular in figure, never seeming to lose enough body fat to garner that "athletic" build that would really show off her broader muscles. When you fall off a cliff, she's the person you want holding onto your rope at the other end. Professionally she wears a standard Lanlanian officer's flight uniform, preferring the boots and pants instead of skirts and flats. When out of uniform but still working, she wears much the same style, sticking with pinstripe or navy pantsuits and ties and comfortable dark flats for all-day wear; you might catch her in a suitcoat, skirt and heels for particularly important events, but don't count on it too much. Outside of work you might catch her in a patchy pair of jeans and sunhat for working on the garden, or simple dark athletic wear while working out; if not doing either of these two things, she aims for light colors and simple lines, fashionable yet comfortable, and always in pants. Personality: Selma doesn't exactly put herself front and center in a crowd and will leave such showboating to more energetic and wordy people. She will dutifully make conversation to suss your interests and find something worth discussing, but you can otherwise expect very little in the way of small talk. If she does have something worth saying, you can expect her to speak strong and proud about it: she knows she smart, and she knows she's right, and she's been doing this too long to care about your masculine insecurities about it. She isn't quiet, though. She has a habit of speaking while she works, or making observations - to herself, mostly - of seemingly mundane things. Ask her to explain a topic, and you'll get the encyclopedia; don't ask her anything, and you're still likely to get a snide remark when you do or say something that makes no gottdang sense. Don't take it personally, she's just quite humored by it. Someone asked her what she does for fun, once. She replied that she goes to work. Her bookshelf at home is full of physics journals, the contents of which she mulls over while absently tending to her garden, or while rock climbing with 50 lbs of gear, or while kicking the snot out of heavy bags in her training room. She forgot about plans to have children somewhere along the way, something she regards, in hindsight, as no great loss. Biography: Selma was born into the Great War as the daughter of solders, prior to the full invasion of Lanlania, and her childhood was defined by the post-war rebuilding of the country. Thankfully she didn't lose either her mother or father - which is much more than she could say for many other children of soldiers - and she grew up with a rather happy childhood in the west of Lanlania following the war, which had survived much more intact than the east. She took a shine to the sciences in school, especially with the push into space and the great megastructures to follow. Lacking many avenues to higher education despite her skill and still faithful to her military upbringing, she joined a rebuilding Lanlanian military as a means towards higher education; eager to expand and especially please to have those with scientific skills in this new era, and earned her education as part of a cadet service corps while studying Broda Physics. Unfortunately, this new post-war age wasn't any more peaceful than the pre-war age, and she saw herself on assignment to Krinis near the end of that conflict between the LU and HPA. She earned her piloting wings after that war, following her parents into the cockpits of mobile weapons. But piloting was only a small part of her tasks. With her interests and skills, she became part of a small Union task force to apply new and experimental sciences to practical military uses, and when the Union came late to the mobile suit design party, she jumped at the chance to join when it was offered as an assignment. Finally applying her most precious area of study, she became part of the team that developed the new technologies required to make mobile suits a reality, and used..."other skills" to acquire the schematics necessary to advance their research in places and ways less than safe or official. As the project neared completion, she was assigned back to Lanlania, serving the country in integrating the new MS-02 Hjolrun into its arsenal. Mobile Suit ? RE: Gundam Siora - Seperallis - 11-19-2019 Okay. So after Frankensteining a bunch to get around the 65565 or whatever character limit for posts, I have consolidated all Gundam info, histories, questions, timelines etc. to the first three posts of this thread. No more flipping through every post to find something; everything you need to know is at the front of the thread, and ordered so things make at least a little sense. There is also a table of links to everyone's character sheets, organized by faction. You're welcome. I'll update the questions to reflect some more things that are important now that we've started. I'll eventually do something about extra info, such as what Deck posted about his countries. You're welcome to make up and post more such stuff here; anything to flesh out the world is nice. RE: Gundam: Siora - Aerandariel - 11-21-2019 Character Design Sheet Name: Charrair Rank: Admiral; Commanding Officer, R.R.W. Lleiset Alliance: Romulan Republic Birthplace: Virinat, Romulan Republic Age: 44 Y.O. Sex: Male Appearance: 5' 6", 200 lbs; usually in Romulan military uniform, dark, shoulder length hair, semi-muscular build Personality: Like most Romulans, Charrair prefers to work in the shadows but has no qualms about facing an adversary head-on. Highly respected for his unorthodox command style and methods of work, Charrair has somewhat of an ego. He is also an astute tactician even when outnumbered or outgunned. Biography: Admiral Charrair was born in the city of Virinat in 1656, two years into the Lost Decade. His parents were respected merchants in the local markets, and his father held a decent amount of sway in the Republic government as a senator and magistrate. Everything changed when the Reman Resistance formed and attacked Virinat and resulted in the deaths of hundreds of civilians, including Charrair's mother. This stirred anger in the young child, and he and his father swore an oath of vengeance upon the Remans and the Human Progress Alliance. Charrair grew up in the midst of the Great War, and as he grew older he became increasingly aware of the world and the changes it was undergoing. When he became of age, Charrair joined the Romulan military as a tactical officer with expertise on HPA warfare. His first posting was at Forward Base Sixteen outside Remus, and was responsible for ground tactical maneuvers against lingering rebel forces backed by the HPA. He served there for three years before transferring to the Air Corps and was promoted to Centurion, posted on the R.R.W. Malem. He gained the respect of his shipmates, and became a highly regarded officer noted for unbiased opinion and attention to duty and service, and also developed a sense of honor. The commander of the Malem was transferred to the Lleiset, as well as a promotion to Subadmiral. Charrair himself was promoted to Commander. In 1687, Charrair became a Subadmiral with the retirement of his former commander and gained command of the Lleiset. He has served in that position since then, even as he continued to rise up the ranks to Admiral. He was involved in the planning and development of several space-capable Warbirds and even tested out a D'deridex air cruiser. As 1700 dawned, Charrair was back on the ground as a military advisor to the Republic government of Proconsul D'Tan while the Lleiset underwent a refit designed to allow the ship to go into space. Mobile Suit N/A RE: Gundam Siora - Aerandariel - 11-30-2019 Character Design Sheet Name: Barbarossa Sisko Rank: Captain, Commanding Officer, F.S.S. Defiance Alias: "The Steel Captain" Alliance: United Solhaven Federation Birthplace: Mallowlyn, West Solhaven Age: 52 Sex: Male Appearance: 5' 7", 178 lbs; when on duty is wearing standard Federation Navy uniform, off-duty usually wears a tunic or robe; bald, mustache and goatee which are graying, slim build Personality: Captain Sisko is a strong personality, committed to duty, honor and service to his country. Though he has a somewhat foul temper, Sisko is usually a fair-minded officer who is willing to see the good qualities in people over the bad. He is good to his friends, always willing to defend them to the letter. But, cross him if you dare, for Sisko is relentless in his dislike and hatred of those who wrong him, his family and friends, or his country. Biography: Barbarossa Sisko was born in Mallowlyn to a restaurateur father and an engineer mother in 1648. In his youth, Sisko grew to admire his father's love of cooking but felt his passions were more inclined towards engineering. When he reached high school, he found himself working with his father in his restaurant and studying some of his mother's technical journals at the same time. Unfortunately, as war broke out between the Federation and the rest of Kvaenna in 1654, his mother was called into military service. Barbarossa and his father would never see their mother and wife again; she would be killed in the Third Battle of the Detectatian Sea when the F.S.S. Ironclad was destroyed. From that day on, Barbarossa took a vow of revenge against the Lagrain Union and the other power blocs that took his mother away from him. When he became of age, Sisko enlisted in the Federation Armed Forces in the Engineering Division. Though his father initially tried to stop Barbarossa, he acquiesced when the younger Sisko pleaded with him to join in order to honor his mother. Sisko became a promising engineering prospect, and the thesis he wrote in 1670 regarding the Broda Small Reactor were highly regarded. While a third-year cadet, Sisko was fast-tracked to official duty aboard the F.S.S. Claymore as an engineering crewman starting in late 1670. Sisko impressed his superiors with his immense technical knowledge, and impressed fellow crewmen with his exceptional culinary skills. Due to his work on a new hydroelectric engine for the Claymore, Sisko would be promoted to Lieutenant in 1674. His work became essential, as the Claymore was one of the few remaining Federation warships still surviving as the Solar Wars erupted and Solhaven became a battleground with the Federation fighting for its life. The Claymore would suffer significant damage in several battles with LU and HPA forces, but because of Sisko and several other engineers, the ship survived long enough to get to Meadowgate Port. Sisko would be promoted to Lieutenant Commander and would be brought to Hyperion to work on a new line of airships and limited space-capable craft to counter the best of the Blocs' power. It was here that Project Defiance was born, and Sisko became instrumental in the development and construction of a multi-purpose airship similar to the Romulan Warbirds. This new craft, the Defiance, propelled Sisko to greater heights. He was granted a special dispensation in the Engineering and Command divisions of the Federation Armed Forces, promoted to the rank of Commander, and was also given command of the station Deep Sea Nine, where the Defiance would be completed. The F.S.S. Defiance would be completed in 1699, just in time for Operation Solaris: the LU-Federation war. Sisko led the Defiance into several pitched battles with LU forces, especially at the Battles of Westfield, Highwyn, both battles at Hyperion, and at Deep Sea Nine; at DS9, the LU tried to destroy the Defiance before it lifted off but were unsuccessful. The Defiance performed admirably, it and Sisko being credited with saving the Federation at several battles. Even the LU begrudgingly respected Sisko's tenacity and the strength of the Defiance. With the end of the LU-Federation War, Sisko was promoted to Captain and helped refit the Defiance to better handle the advent of the new "mobile suits" being built and developed by the LU, HPA and others. As 1700 dawned, Captain Barbarossa Sisko was largely considered one of the Federation's finest officers and indeed a great hero. Still aboard the [I]Defiance[I], Sisko awaits a new challenge to come across his and the Federation's way. |
