Halvadag, Lanlania, High Messanic Empire
23 Vintyr 1539

Frederich II was a bold man. He had to be, to ride in an open-air vehicle down one of Halvadag's main streets, glancing solemnly at his subjects and occasionally raising an arm to intensifying cheers. It was difficult to then resist a smile; the power of having so many people at his beckoning was difficult for any man to resist.

The gathered crowd was massive and had been all along the streets and highways the Imperial motorcade had followed. The entire island had seemingly gathered to attend the Emperor's Yul speech and the public Yul feast that came with it. Some had in fact came from the reaches of the island—following the Emperor through his tour of the Lanlanian homeland.

The crowd only became thicker as the street opened into the Grand Imperial Park, across which stood the Halvadag Imperial Palace. The Imperial Guard motorcycles leading the motorcade eased between police barricades, heading down the wide park paths deeper into the park. Within half an hour, Frederich would stand before his people, celebrating Noel and the Faith, Lanlania, and the Messanic Empire as a whole—his speech opening the national week-long Yul celebration broadcasted throughout the empire and beyond.

It'd be a serene, misleading close to decades of peace, a prequel to an era of war.

"Gross."

"Sinners."

"Fairies."

Ren shrank in his jacket. "It's cold," he whispered, attempting to ignore the murmurs sent their way. It was harder to ignore the occasional "brushed" shoulder—shoves, really—he received, though he had little choice. Most didn't get through his boyfriend, Dan anyway.

"Very," Dan replied. He took another rude brush, as the two of them moved down the bustling street. Urban Halvadag was bad enough on a regular day; now, the week of Yul and with the Emperor in town, the streets near Imperial Park were loaded, as people headed to the Yul feast or otherwise prepared for a week of heavy celebration.

"We should've gotten everything last week," said Ren.

Dan nodded. "Yeah." Not much else to say. It had been an oversight to not stock up while they could still walk the streets relatively unharassed. Or at least, without being insulted and pushed every few steps. Whether it was the a heightened sense of religious fervor, or simply the conservatives entering the city for the holiday, Yul week was always a difficult time for homosexuals in Halvadag. Especially since the Imperial riksdag forced them to register and openly identify themselves.

At least the identifications made it easier to meet friendly persons, including one another.

The two entered a store with a prominent yellow circle displayed on the window: the symbol of a Makhal-owned storefront. A fellow repressed minority, the Makhal were one of the few groups still willing to do business with them.

"Eh...Ren, Jon, so good to see you two." Anna Lagner, the elderly woman who owned the store with her husband, Gabriel, both spoke perfect Lanlanian. If the hadn't had a Makhal upbringing, and have their family lineage traceable to a Makhal family from Azreae, they would be indistinguishable from "pure" Lanlanians.

"Pretty bold to be out on the streets this week," Gabriel added, studying the two boys—though in their twenties, they would always be baby-faced teenagers to he and his wife—from behind the counter.

"Dan forgot to get toilet paper last week," Ren explained. He stopped by the counter, as his boyfriend wandered deeper into the small store.

"So he says, but he forgot too," Dan defended himself.

Ren ignored him in favor of Anna. "How have you been, Sava?" "Sava" was a Makhal word, grandmother; she was certainly an elderly lady, in her sixties at least.

"Oh, well enough," she answered. "The doctor said it wasn't much to worry about. Just a cold. It's gone away, anyway."

Ren nodded. "That's good." It went unsaid that anything serious would bankrupt them. As registered minorities, they didn't have the healthcare available to most Lanlanians. "I'm glad to hear it, Sava."

"Business has been good," Gabriel added, perhaps reading the sad smile that had taken over boy's face. Or fellows are enough to offset the lost business from those purists. Thank you, boys."

"Well, it's easy to pick who to give your money to when half the stores don't even want you in there," Dan replied drying. He placed the pack on the counter. Ren added a few candies.

Gabriel chuckled emptily. "These are trying times. Actually, Anna and I have been considering selling and leaving Halvadag. Maybe even the Empire. It's becoming too much, and it's only getting worse."

"Aww," Ren pouted, reaching out and embracing the couple. "We'll miss you if you do. Dan and I have been thinking about it too...but it'd be awfully costly."

"Indeed," the old man sighed. "And we're already so old." He glanced at his wife and pulled her closer. "Maybe we'll contact our daughter in Oslanburg. While we still can. I'm sorry, boys."

Dan and Ren looked at one another, and nodded solemnly. The rest of the transaction was silent, before the four traded simple farewells and the two men left. Anna and Gabriel watched them pass by the the front window, back down the way they'd came. The two had children of their own once, a son who'd been killed in a hate crime and a daughter who'd moved to Oslanburg. They'd been born before the empire began sterilizing minorities.

Scholden Luftvaerks is a Oslanburg-based multinational corporation that designs, manufactures and sells fixed-wing aircraft, hovercraft, and satellites and provides leasing and product support services. Scholden is among the largest global aircraft manufacturers, is Oslanburg's' largest exporter by dollar value.

Scholden's corporate headquarters are located in Vibirg, Oslanburg and the company is led by CEO Erick Scholden. Scholden is organized into two primary divisions: Scholden Commercial Division (SCD), and Scholden Defense, Space & Security Division(SDSS).

Products and Services

Scholden's main services are in civilian airline manufacturing, though it also has a sizeable investment indefensible technology and the drone aircraft.

Commercial Aircraft

The Scholden product line started with the SL-430, one of Siora's first single-aisle, twin-engined aircraft. Building on its apparent success, Scholden launched the SL-440, particularly notable for it's large passenger capacity. The SL-430 has been, and continues to be, a great commercial success. The SL-530-70 is a shorter derivative which is under construction for the corporate business jet market.

The longer-range wide body products, the twin-jet SL-460 and the four-engine SL-440, have efficient wings, enhanced by winglets. All aircraft developed since then have cockpit systems similar to that of the SL-430, making it easier to train crew.

In Aditur 1554, Scholden delivered its last SL-450 to the Oslanburg Airforce, marking the end of the of the SL-450 production line. In the coming years Scholden intends to relocate it's Vundt SL-460 final assembly activity to Fenridge, and SL-470 production to Aetinheim as part of a recent organisation plan begun under it's's CEO.

Defense and Space

Scholden Defense, Space & Security (SDSS) is a unit of Scgolden Luftvaerks responsible for defense and aerospace products and services. Scholden Defense, Space and Security was formed in 1552 by combining the former Military Aircraft and Missile Systems and Communications division and one other. Scholden Defense, Space & Security makes Scholden the largest defense contractor in Oslanburg and was responsible for 45% of the company's income in 1563. SDSS is based outside Aetinheim, Oslanburg.

President Vynnychuk supports proposal for Ban on Extremism
[Image: 1pkASGh.jpg]

1578

Mstsislavsk -- Nentsian president Aliaksei Vynnychuk has expressed his support for the proposal to introduce a bill that will ''ban extremism''. The ban was proposed by a fellow party member of the ruling Hramada Party, Kostya Lukyanenko. With the bill, it would be possible for Nentsian criminal courts to sentence people to 10 years imprisonment for extremism. Critics however are worried that the vague definition of ''extremism'' in this bill will give the Nentsian government a tool to silence its opponents and suppress freedom of speech.

Vynnychuk returned to the presidency in 1577 after a four-year absence during which he was supposedly retired from politics. Mounting internal and external pressures on the political system he left behind prompted him to make his comeback. The ensuing election campaign was heavily criticized by the opposition as being unfair and rigged. Independent journalists were being intimidated, and the former chairman of the Association of Journalism, Piotr Kohut, was found dead in his apartment. The authorities also undermined the independent Election Commission, accused its members of corruption, and blatantly proceeded to set up a new one with pro-government agents. The Election Commission subsequently rejected the candidacy of the leader of the opposition, Mikita Marcinkiewic on administrative grounds. Several days later his candidacy was approved after nationwide unrest.

Independent media and journalists were obstructed in their work in every possible way. The election campaigns of rivals were sabotaged, and the government went as far as to prop up fake opposition candidates to weaken the opposition. Vynnychuk eventually won the elections with 69% of the votes. A spontaneous demonstration against the outcome was violently crushed by the Nentsian police. Opposition candidate Marcinkiewic who was also present at the demonstration was singled out by police troops and beaten into a coma. Vynnychuk later declared the demonstrations were the work of ''foreign agents'' inciting ''outbursts of extremism''. Since then, a ''ban on extremism'' has been on the agenda of his political party.

The ban is therefore feared by critics of the government that it will be abused to silence the opposition and to strengthen Vynnychuk's hold over the nation. The bill has not officially been proposed yet, but that seems a matter of time now the president has publically given his support for it. The bill will likely be approved by the parliament.

Survey - who recognizes fascist Akitsu?
Posted by: Zabuza825 - 09-07-2016, 02:25 AM - Forum: Discussion and Planning - Replies (16)

So, this is something I need to figure out before I do anything else with Akitsu.

For those of you that don't know, Akitsu went though a coup that toppled a democratically elected government and installed a dictatorship. These coup plotters have established their new governments, and I'm just skipping over the parts I'm not interested in RP'ing (namely, trying to preserve the coup in the immediate aftermath) and assuming the coup gov't survived..... somehow (please, just roll with it, I know this is complete bullshit in terms of realism but at this point just fuck it).

I want to know - who recognizes this new government? Who doesn't recognize it?

I'll add you to a table once you tell me. Here's what I know right now:

Please tell me your country name(s) and whether or not they recognize this new regime of Akitsu. I want to know what diplomatic opportunities this new government does/does not have.

  The Gods of Andlosheim
Posted by: Ayzek - 09-06-2016, 11:45 PM - Forum: The Great Library - Replies (3)

Dan Gïdva av Andloshïm
En Encyklopedika va Gudfrid Forlorn

Foreword

There are a multitude of gods that watch over Andlosheim. Their existence has been proven, as even a novice mage is capable of establishing communication with them—if the god chooses to hear them, at least. The power of the gods is frightening, as a skilled mage with an attentive and generous patron deity is capable of awesome thing, often overwhelming independent mages. However, it is believed that gods are not omnipotent; the different in strength between some is obvious, while others have been killed or otherwise erased from existence. A god with too few followers is believed to steadily fade into oblivion, while we know of several gods that were slain in battle during the Godswar.

It is consequently theorized that most gods require worship, or at least confirmation, in order to survive. Mare Proda, an Elder God of law and justice, has grown significantly weaker since Tyrus's rise to prominence. Similarly, Kenlinkusdom, a minor god of arrogance and rage, is believed to have faded into oblivion—not only does he fail to respond to hails but the star previously associated with him is no longer distinguishable in the heavens. More obvious evidence of the gods' mortality lies with Sutr, the Primordial God of Winter, who was killed during the Godswar. At his death, the magical power of his believers waned significantly.

The gods are believed to reside in the heavens directly above the World, where they are protected, or perhaps kept at bay, by the Kïsyr dragons. No mortal man has been known to step there—instead repelled by the Kïsyr which patrol the skies. Indeed, the Kïsyr were first discovered when Archmage Aris Kornim attempted to penetrate the heavens within a metal box; she was shot down by a magnificent, golden beast she could barely discern. However, a consequent study into their species revealed that they are far ancienter; the earliest sighting of them significantly predates modern states.

Within the Heavens, the gods are further divided by pantheons, the most popular of which are:
  • The Valhalnir, headed by Tyrus
  • The Allanians, headed by Zypher
  • The Segnir, headed by Seglari
  • The Rannava, headed by Raas
  • The Hainu, headed Shavin, Vishta, and Shinne
  • The Hallava, headed by Natesiel and Ferluciel
Of course, most gods are not worshiped in all locations. For example, the primary deities of Sidgard and the surrounding region are the Valhalnir, which are rarer in other parts of Andlosheim. Additionally, there are a multitude of independent yet widely-worshiped (and consequently fairly powerful) deities—such as Baphometh and Deus.

It should be noted that while a multitude of different pantheons exist, many gods born through the faith of Man, there are a few gods that are known to predate Man itself. These gods are known as Primordial Gods, or Elohim, and are believed to be powerful even without followers. It was the Elohim that participated in the Godswar—which occurred before many of today's gods even existed. These gods are believed to be unchanging, even before the pressure of their followers. The Elohim are the only gods believed to be fully universal—found throughout the World, perhaps under different names and faces. Lesser gods, the Ishim, which were born through Man's faith, are more dependent on their followers, and tend to be limited to their original region.

The gods can be divided along many lines. The primary camps are the Elohim and Ishim mentioned above. Some gods are also considered "Elder Gods", while not all Lesser Gods are Ishim. There are also Malakim, which aren't gods at all! These terms will be explored further in the tome.

Quote:SIFA HOST BID FORM
Nation Name: simple
Venues: cities and stadiums where games will be held. pictures are nice as well as estimated seating size for each stadium -- need at least 10 stadiums, though up to 20 is fine
Why should your nation host the event:
What is the football background in your nation: give us an idea of what football means in your country. Give a history of your team, list any domestic leagues (you've likely at least got a semi-pro league if not an actual pro league) and any other interesting tidbits. Do most of your players play domestically, or do they leave for richer or more popular leagues? What are some key figures in your teams history? If you need any help with this let me or blac know.
Anything else of note: infrastructure, lodgings, etc. what makes your nation interesting?

The concept is plain and simple: post a work of art (sculpture, painting, photograph - whatever), and tell us why you like it. Also don't forget to mention the creator and the title of the artwork.

Ps: try to keep the images within a reasonable size Smile

Title: Place de la Concorde
Year: 1875
Artist: Edgar Degas

I came across this painting in the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, or actually the building directly opposite to it which used to be the old headquarters of the Chiefs of Staff of the Russian army. I generally like impressionist paintings because they are the kind of paintings that I would actually enjoy having on my wall in my own house and would never grow tired of seeing over and over again, because they seem alive.

I liked this particular painting because of its strange composition, that suggests as if it was literally painted ad hoc there in the middle of a street in Paris, with some gentlemen coincidentally passing by and crossing the view. I also like these kind of scenes because they appear natural (no one seems to be posing, it doesn't look staged) and I like to think they give away a peek view into what ordinary life and society looked like in an age that none of us can really imagine what it was like.
